blade sharpness

Perhaps this will be a goofy question so please be kind. I have several Sebbie's and like them all. Although they all cut cardboard and various everyday chore type things well, they just don't seem to have that extra fine sharpness that other knives of S30V have. I sharpen them all the same including using black and green compound on the buffing wheels. Like cutting off an errant cuticle, I seem to have to saw on it rather than "hair pop" it off. Is this and edge geometry thing or perhaps a "toothy-ness" thing. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I can't honestly say I've experienced this problem. All my S30V knives, Reeve or not, will get hair-popping sharp on a sharpmaker, although the Kershaw and the Benchmade hold their edges a wee bit longer. I assume this is due to their higher rockwell, but can't say for sure.

(And this is an honest question, since I'm completely ignorant on the matter, but don't buffing wheels remove an inordinate amount of metal compared to hand-sharpening methods?)

i put a convex edge on a sebenza last year for a member finishing the edge off with the paper buffing wheel. i had it screaming sharp. i think if rifle would switch to a set of paper wheels he would like the results.

I'm getting a consistent edge on both my CRK and Non-CRK S30V blades, using a 40 degree angle on my Sebenzas and a 30 degree angle on the others.

I've never used a wheel, I always finish and maintain my edges using the suede side of a leather strop covered in green chromium oxide compound. The final step of stropping has always resulted in a hair popping edge regardless of angle or brand.

I don't think there's that much value to a hair popping edge on a regular knife.
Sure it's fun to be able to scare hair away by just pointing the blade at your arm, but is that edge necessary for 99.9% of the EDC chores you'll be doing?

rockwell does play apart try a stone like norton fine india and medium to start then stropp the knife you will be shoked at the result and well pleased. when you stropp use green jewelers rough.
