Hi,

I've never been to The Blade Show in Atlanta and I am hoping to go this year.

Sorry to ask so many questions, but trying to get prepped.

Looking for the following info:

1 - What are the dates for the show?
2 - Is there a Daily fee?
3 - Is there a day that is better than another for us to be there? (Most likely we will only be able to make it down for 1 day.)
4 - Is there anything set up down there so the forumites can get together to put faces with the names/Alias's
5 - Any other info you think I should know, to make the best of it?

Any info is much appreciated,

B

That depends on what you want.

Friday is seller's day. The selection is best, but the prices are high. The big names will sell out quickly.

Saturday is social day. This is a good day to have extended conversations with your favorite makers, maybe comission a custom knife. It's also a good day to broaden your horizons by looking at knives you wouldn't otherwise see.

Sunday is buyer's day. The selection is picked-over and some of the big names are sold out, but what remains is priced to sell.

Friday and Saturday night feature the famous "pit". Sunday evening everyone is either exhausted or already left.

After the show in the lobby bar known as "the pit".

BLEEP!, I had a detailed post of tips and it got lost.
Here's the essentials.
Wear comfortable shoes.
Take a bottle of water with you. The concessions are expensive and serve lousy food.
Some of the BFC members put their names on their show badges or wear badges that they make.
Some of the sub-forums...Busse, Himilayan Imports, Balisongers get together for a dinner on their own. Pretty cool!
Cash is king...some take other methods of payment but don't bet on it.
Get there early on the day of your choosing to get your entry badge...the line can be long, especially on the opening day.
Say "Hi!" to all the makers and say thank you when you leave. Ask before handling knives. It's only polite. Almost all will encourage you to pick up their stuff...most of the time all it take is an enquiring look and pointing at the knife to get a nod of approval.
Most attendee's have cards on their table. Use them to take notes on thier knives for future refrence.
Blade Magazine will have a map to the show and a table map along with a list of all the attendee's before the show. There will also be a lot of threads here as the show get's closer.
That's a quick thumbnail of my tips...I'm sure others will follow.
Have fun...you'll be blown away by your first Blade Show!!

One other event that is getting bigger every year is the Thursday evening dinner.
Just a get-together of collectors and makers.

I will post info later on once the plans are made. :D

Thanks Everyone for all the great info!

I am totally stoked about this  .

Thanks again,

B

I need some help, Looks liek I might be going this year for the first time.

I tried the Krause site, but it doesn't seem to work for me.

- If the Cobb Galleria has no rooms left whats the 2nd- 3rd choice?

- Are there and get togther specifically for CRK, SPyderco or BF (outside the pit)?

- Smoking in buildings has been banned here in MA for years, is smoking allowed indoors in Atlanta? (I'm a NS, but it will play a role in decding to go)

Thanks

Dave: All the smoking at the show itself happens outdoors, in front of the exhibition center.

I am going this year, and it will be MY very first time going!! I am very, very excited!!!
