It looks like he made, in a couple of the images, two cuts before the pieces fell, very quick work!

Yep, that's exactly what he did -
one cut to sever a section, then cut that section again before it falls
(in 4 images, since I look for those cuts).

What's was even better was in photo #5
(bottom left, if they're shown a pair at a time as on my monitor) -
he severed a section then came over the top to split it in two top-down......
the string binding just in the frame on the left, flew over and hit me on the head......

I had the pleasure of seeing Tameshigiri (Japanese sword cutting) by James Williams of Bugei at last years Blade! It was spectacular!!

The Tameshigiri photos are sweet, I practice Kendo and have always wanted to take it to the Tameshigiri level.
