I'm finally back home. Well, I was here yesterday but I needed some rest after last 40+ hrs of last day of the show & traveling by car/plain/plain/car.

Let's start with Chris Reeve Knives. Or not, let's start with Al Mar! This year Al Mar joined Cutlery Hall of Fame, and that is the most honorable moment of The Blade Banquet every year, much more important than the awards as such (in my opinion) so that's why I'd like to start here. Al was a good friend of Bill Harsey and Chris Reeve. And when Chris received the award he told a short story about Al and how Al's work influenced his knives. And since Al was iportant person for both Chris and Bill I coudn't start with anything else than Al joining the Cutlery Hall of Fame.

Now let's go back to Chris. CRK introduced Sikayo series of kitchen knives, of which Sikayo Slicer is the "flagship" model. It's long, strong and sharp. And thanksto very special "waved" grind lines it slices through food with ease - all kinds of, from bread with crispy skin to soft tomatoes. Great knife. Chris scored Best Kitchen Knife Of The Year award for this one. Chris also scored for the 9th time Manufacturing Quality Award, which should be now called "Chris Reeve Manufacturing Quality Award" I think

Some pictures below:

- Chris receives his award
- Chris & his Sikayo
- Waverly Hotel Restaurant Chief tries Sikayo (and complements the design a lot!)
- Chris' friend, who's also Restaurant Chief in SOuth Africa, and his "Sikayo Show"

Now our friend Bill... as usual there's always been a big smile on face of my Oregon brother Bill showed during Blade couple of new designs. One you already know (5.5" utility knife) and the other two are Tactical Trout Knives - smaller than most of Bills knives, but strong, with great grip (also in reverse) and useful of course. Kind of personal tactical knives that don't scream "HEY, I'M BADASS BLACK TACTICAL KNIFE" and which can be easily explained to LEO as trout (or camp) knives. One full-size, one slightly smaller. These will sta as "custom only" knives at Bill's line of custom knives, at least that's Bills plan.

Below some Blade Show pic's of Bill:
- Bill (cool portrait, isn't it?)
- Bill and his "small private bladeshow"
- Bill & Jim Burke (and two Jim's knives... that ubercool 2" 154CM & Ti slipjoint is mine, yeah!)
- Bill & Joe (Blade Show Manager)
- CRK Team together: Dan, Bill, me, Chris, Heather, Anne and Tim

And now Bill's knives... these are temporary pictures taken at the backyard of Waverly Hotel (yes!). These fine protos found a new home in Poland (good and safe home) and I'll take some serious photos as soon as FedEx delivers them to me after custom clearence. I sent them via FedEx to be very safe that these arrive to new home safely. Now just look at these lines... and what an awesome leatherwork!

Piter, excellent photos as usual. Those Harsey's look impressive.

Piter -- Thanks for the great photos! Since you have the first news from Blade, a few quick questions. In the CRK group shot, I count four kitchen knives. Besides the two announced Sikayos, there appears to be a smaller prototype, and a larger wooden handled prototype as well. Is this true, or are they the chef's personal knives? Also, what is the "waved grind line" you mentioned? Is that something done on the final (secondary) grind? Neither your photos or the CRK website photos show any grind waviness, and your description has me really curious.

On the last two photos of the two Bill Harsey protos, there seems to be shadow pattern on the blades. Since I don't see it in the previous photos, I'm guessing it's reflections from foliage above you, and not a subtle airbrushed camo pattern. Is that true?

Congrats on the protos and the slipjoint. Does the slipjoint have a name, and if not, what are you going to call it? It looks like a stout little devil.

Oh, one last question - did Chris erase all hope of a Scout before the OPR ends this year?

Anyway, congrats again, and thanks again for the photo and report.

From the CRK site, I think this may answer your first question: "There are 4 blade lengths planned for the set of Sikayo Chef Knives - a 4" blade and a large bread/slicing knife will be available in May/June 2009."

You can see slight "wave" on the gring line in the fist picture, where Chris holds the Sikayo. Imagine "kris dagger" kind of grind on a kitchen knife... that's it :D

The last two pictures show 5.5" utility knife, it's a different knife from previous pair! And different finish as you can see. Tactical trouts are just beadblasted and 5.5" Utility is Shadow Camo.

Scout? Well... no chance I believe.

The handle of the Sikayo looks rather small .Am I correct ?
I'm still looking for the S35VN composition ?

When CRK comes out with a left hand ground Sikayo I'm getting one for sure.

The lefties were prototyped and are being produced simultaneously with the RH models. You should be able to get them at the same time. I help run the machine that grinds them and the final fixtures are set up for both R & LH. Call the shop to make sure though.

Excellent, thanks. :)
I'll send Neil at TNK an email and ask him to let me know when he gets them.

Piotr, looks like you had a great time, as usual! Would love to hear about ALL of your acquisitions! If you write a thread as such, pls throw me the url so I can drool . . .
