Good morning everybody. I'm seeking some advice.

I live about 2 hours from the Galleria, where the Blade Show is being held next weekend, and things are working out where it will be pretty convenient for me to take Friday (5/30) off. We're planning on just making a family road trip out of it. Some questions:
1. Are all the exhibitors there on Friday? It's not a full day on the schedule (2pm - 7pm), so I was wondering if maybe some thngs were incomplete.
2. How "family friendly" is the whole thing? We're planning on taking all the kids (1, 3, 5, 7). The older ones will be fine. Anywhere the youngest could nurse, rest, etc.?
3. What's the likelihood that I'd be able to see/study some BRKT products there? I'm in the market, but noticed they're not there. Is it reasonable to expect that some vendors will have their product?

Thanks,
Pine

My advice? CASH, and plenty of it!!! There will be vendors at the show, usually on the right hand side as you enter Heaven on earth, aka the exhibit hall. Again CASH, and plenty of it!!:D:D:thumbup: Have a great time, and it is a family friendly atmosphere, just keep the kids from grabbing knives off of the tables.:)

Not sure how family friendly it will be for kids that age. There will be large numbers of knives openly displayed and if your kids are the type that have to touch then I would say find a sitter. If your kids can resist the urge to grab at things you will probably be ok but keep a sharp eye on them. Friday is probably the calmest day there but you will have to stay on your toes to keep track of them. Sadly there will be large numbers of testerone laden males there who tend to get a little pushy when there is something they want to see and they don't always look down, keep the kids well within arms reach at all times.

Pine, here are my thoughts;
1. Friday will be a full day for everyone, you could arrive right at 2 and stay until closing and you will probably see about 1/5 of all the Tables. You would have to pay for a one day pass for both you and your Wife but I think Children under 12 are Free with a paying Adult.
2. I think you would be better attending Friday than Saturday if you are brining the whole family. There will be lots going on but Sat will be really jam packed where as Friday will be a bit slower (easier to keep up with the little ones).
3. BRKT will not have a Booth or Table there but you may stumble across one or two knives on a private Dealers table.

This Show is attended by most (but not all) Production knife companies and Custom Makers from around the World (literally). There are several Individuals there each year who also sell beautiful Jewelry and Purses / Handbags that are gorgeous. These items will not be priced with HSN prices but these are hand crafted items that are very high quality. I would recommend you search for Custom Maker Jot Singh Khalsa and view his hand made Jewelry!

The Main hall is HUGE, the pottys are far away from each other (so if the Children need to go it will be a bit of a walk), I am sure they have changing tables in the Bathrooms. There are Tables / Chairs at the rear of the hall so if the Children want a Juice or Soda you can purchase one there and let them sit a while. Also, there are several shops outside of the Hall (but still within the building) that your family can walk through (not connected with the Show) if they want to venture out early.

Most importantly, as others have mentioned, many tables have knives and other sharp object within easy reach (no glass cases or guards) so it is imperative that you instruct your children not to touch or grab anything off of a table.

Hope you decide to go, I know you would be astounded.

Thanks everybody.

The 3 oldest kids are all trained, so we're not worried about the "unauthorized grabbing" problem. Looking forward to it.

I think you should take cash if you believe you will be in a buying mode and most are. For myself, I'll take along about $500 cash, but I don't have extreme tastes in customs. Credit cards work too for many of the sellers.

I have passes to the show and had hoped to get there on Friday noonish; do most of my "shopping" on Friday; spend the night, then take in a more relaxing long day on Saturday hitting the tables, exhibitions, and return. I'm about 2 hours or so from the show depending on traffic and often just drove back and forth instead on motelling it. With gas prices the way they are, I think staying in Atlanta is a better choice.

It is fun but tiring. Take money for food and drink.
