Yet another year is passing where I will miss out on personally meeting guys who have become highly valued friends to me over the years through Bladeforums.

Ryan Weeks has proven to be one of the most rock solid and honourable people I have ever known, which is somewhat amazing in that we still have not met face to face.

Imagine how happy I was to receive a box this morning from Ryan. Reading the note he wrote really got me stoked. As many of my friends here know, I've been set on developing my eye and skills as a designer of knives, and recognition of these efforts by guys like Ryan keeps the hope afloat.

The t shirt that Ryan gifted me is awesome! In my industry, t shirts are something that always come my way, but they're all branded with mountain bike companies and stuff. This is the first custom knife t shirt I've ever gotten and I will wear it with pride!

Thank you Ryan! I love ya man:D

Ryan is good people. Congrats.

Very cool. I've also only met Ryan through email and phone, but he is an AWSOME guy and does great work. Only have one of his customs so far but on the list for a second.

Lorien, Great knife and t shirt! Wish you could make it to Blade. We're heading that way across north Mississippi at a high rate of speed.

Mighty nice of Ryan W! That is an awesome gesture.
Great looking knife Lorien. Ryan must value your contributions.

Whataguy!

I met Ryan and his son this afternoon. You will look up to him even more when you do meet him. I mean literally: He's easily 6'6", with his teenage son maybe an inch shorter! :)

This work stands tall, no matter what. I'm pleased for you. :)

I have met Ryan and he is one of the nicest people I have met. He is going to be a giant in the knife world.

I love the flow of that line from the end of the handle to the tip of the blade running top side over the spine. Aesthetically pleasing to the eye. nicely done all concerned!

yep, it's pretty cool eh?
Thank you for the kind words fellas.
As for Ryan being a giant, well, he's pretty much there already lol!
But yeah, he has some MAJOR potential, in my opinion for what it's worth.

Wow. I spoke to Tad Lynch at his Blade table today and he mentioned that Lorien posted this up. Lorien thank you for posting this and for the kind words. It is fun to read the comments. I feel that Lorien Design is the one that made me decide to continue in the custom knives game. As for my 6'6" Coop exaggerates a little bit ;)

Thought I would Muddy up Lorien's thread with a few photos since he didn't get to make it this year.

3 years ago before I started making knives I had contacted Sam Lurquin and commissioned a knife, I decided on the "TSAVO". I began making knives and got a lot of Encouragement from Sam to continue the work. I had hoped to make Blade 2012 where I would meet up with Sam, that didn't happen on my end.

Sam had a lot on his plate this year with his ABS Journeyman Smith judging and things at home getting in the way. I got an Email from him a few days from the show that he would have my knife finished up and at BLADE!!!! He actually finished it the day before his flight. Unfortunately it will go back home with him to get a sheath made.

Nice photo Ryan, doubt Lorien will mind.
Sounds like you are having a great show.

Side note, "The lions of Tsavo" is one of my favorite books.
So, I'm all in for more photos of your blade.

Please, Ryan, have at er!

As the 'Blade Show Consolation Prize' thread, any and all pictures that you'd like to post of your Blade experience are welcome here. They will also be considered a consolation prize :)

I've taken this knife out to the trails and it performs great! Kind of a mini machete, light and very handy to keep in my man purse. The forward leaning angle of the edge and the consistent curvature makes for great cuts. It's pretty light and tends to deflect a little due to the lack of mass, but if I hold it just right- which is pretty easy given the fit of the handle to my hand- the blade sails through woody and fibrous stems up to about 1 1/2 cm without any trouble at all.

Really though, this knife would make for an excellent personal defence weapon, not that I ever carry a knife for that reason except when I'm offtrail in cougar/bear territory.

I've traced the knife out and tweaked the pattern a bit. Maybe I'll post that up some time.

In the meantime, please post your Blade photos here Ryan. Mi casa su casa!

Glad to hear you have had it out getting dirty. The earlier versions I made of the PIF were a little more on the chopper side. I tried to make this one more sleek and fast.

I didn't pull the camera out too much at Blade unfortunately, I was having too much fun! I had a blast chatting with Many, MANY people that I only know from Bladeforums. Every single one was as good as the next. I don't want to forget anyone so I won't name names. The best part of attending the show was not the knives but the friendships made.

Sam Lurquin had an amazing and eventful show this year! I was lucky enough to pick up two of his blades. Sam earned his JS Stamp and won the 2013 George Peck Award.

The TSAVO (Bigger of the two) was given to me by Sam as trade for one of my knives to be delivered at Blade 2014. His conditions were that I make him a Knife with my "Style" and it be a guarded hidden tang (Lorien this should make you smile). And that I have a table at the next show.

My son Tyler, noticed Mark Begg from "Blade Brothers" roaming and I grabbed them for a photo (Sorry it is Blurry). Great down to earth guys, Half of us made our Angry face, Mark was showing his "Model Kissy Face"!

that sounds like the coolest thing I've pretty much ever heard! Sam is showing the kind of generosity that will heal the world! Seriously.

here is your next mission;
