Wow, Robert. Sweet looking knife. Would love to be able to get ahold of that and see how it feels. Never had a cord wrapped handle before. Sheath looks great also. Your frined should be very pleased.

robert, you mentioned in an eaelier thread about your farm steel, but i don't remember how, or whether you mantioned how you heat treat it. i may be able to aquire some cultivator tines, and would like to give it a go. Brilliant knife btw!

Kevin,

First, let me say that this is an "unknown" steel, so I reallly don't know what the heck it is. I heat treat in an upright propane forge (sorta Don Fogg style), and have a pyrometer at blade level.

I played around with the heat treat, and finally settled on 1475 degrees with about a 5-7 minute soak at 1475. I quench in vet grade mineral oil that is preheated to 135 degrees. I triple draw the blades at 415 degrees for 2 hours per draw.

So far, this has worked well. Just remember, you are still dealing with a lot of unknowns when using this stuff.

I do these for fun only, and get very lucky from time-to-time.

Hope this helps............... Have fun........... Robert
