So the wife and I had a reservation (through the blade show website back in January) at the Embassy.

We received a confirmation this past Friday saying our room rate was one number, and then an email yesterday saying the room rate had almost doubled...

I called the hotel and they didn't seem to know what was going on, and just stated that is need to call sales in the morning.

Has this happened to anyone else, and if so, what (if any) information/decision have you been given?

There’s really nice hotels in my city, don’t feel obligated to stay there. I would call corporate and inquire. Maybe call your CC and have them look into what happened.

I would simply go down the street to look for hotels. With the new Brave’s stadium, that area has a massive increase in taxes and valuation.

Some of the best shopping, dinning, and hotels in the U.S. are right down the road in Buckhead. Infinitely better area with ‘soooooo’ much more to do and see. You could walk around to the bars and other hotels. It’s a heck of a time and lifestyle.

IMO, it would be a nice romantic gesture to “offset” BS’18.

I have no idea why any of you want to stay around the Galleria. Especially since the new Staduim and the increase to be around that area. It’s so not worth it. 15-20 minute drive and you have the world at your disposal.

I am more than willing to help anyone coming to my city.

I am a Southerner and we take pride in being hospitable.

Please, PM me, if you want some tips/advice/help for enjoying my city.

Did you reserve your room through the contract deal with Blade? If so you should reach out to the show organizers. Those rates are contracted and should not change.

If you went outside of Blade for reservations via 3rd party (Hotels.com, Yahoo, etc) or direct with the hotel and did not prepay the fine print of your reservation could state that you have to pay market price. I would check to see if Blade has any rooms left from the link on their site and if so get one at their rate, then cancel your existing one.

My side job from sheaths is managing IT for one of the largest event planning companies in the world, so I am very well versed in dealing with hotel/event contracts. When the Blade planners negotiate a rate with the hotel they lock in X number of rooms, these are called room blocks. Whatever is left outside of the block are the rooms available for reservation without going through Blade organizers and are subject to market rates. So for example if Blade "blocks" 80% of the hotel rooms around Cobb for their attendees, the 20% left are subject to supply/demand pricing.

That sucks! As long as you have an email saying what the rate was, then you *should* have that rate locked in as long as their is no fine print in the email indicating otherwise. I had that happen one time at a hotel and didn't realize it until checkout and my week stay went up over $1,000 from the expected price; fortunately I was able to talk to the manager and get the rate adjusted back to what it should have been.

So we can stagger back to our room at 5am?

Safety first...but secondly...

You could have Uber/Taxi/Lift races back to the hotel. Truly fun races and some side betting may make even it more fun.

I received an email a little bit ago staring the following. It appears that the issue was systemic, has been corrected, and the original rate will be honored.

Dear Blade Show Guests:

I am writing on behalf of the Embassy Suites Atlanta Galleria with regard to your reservation for the Blade Show 2018. Please be aware that due to a system error, some rates on your confirmation letters may show a higher rate. Let me assure you that the correct nightly rate for Blade Show 2018 is $xxx.xx. This is an extremely rare occurrence and I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me immediately. Thank you for choosing Embassy Suites Atlanta Galleria. We look forward to seeing you in the coming months
