In keeping with my current craze of Dr. knives and daggers (with occasional off-shoots all over the place) I was pretty fortunate this year.
All of these knives have stories behind them, but I will keep the descriptions short.
The first one is a Damascus Dagger by Sava Damlovac. I had heard about this knife from several knifemakers and was elated when Sava called me before the show and said the knife was available. (Insert real long mushy story here)
Knives aside, Sava is one of my best friends. He is a retired machinest residing in Indianapolis and makes knives only because he loves to. (I think this is the 7th knife he has made since he obtained his Journeyman's Stamp. We have planned to visit friends in Arkansas this fall right before the A.B.S hammer-in and I am already counting the days. This man is one of the nicest, patient people I have known and his passion for knives is second to none.
Some bastid and Sava. (Picture by Ray Kirk - raker) Thanks again Ray!

The blade is 2500 layers of damasucs forged and ground and heat treated by the maker. The handle is fluted oosic sith twisted gold wire. The guard and and quillions are 416 stainless. Sava has the knife for engraving on the guard and stone inlays in the quillions. I send Richard Rogers traditional patterns to study every once in a while. Before the show he wrote me and said he had one if I wanted it. I wrote him back that it did not matter what it was, I would love to have it this is what I ended up with. Blade and spatula are ATS-34. Handle is quilted mother of pearl, the 416 stainless bolsters are integral to the liners. This is the first doctor pattern he made with a spatula. Next years promises to be pretty special too.

I also sent a few patterns to Joel Chamblin. I have been bugging him for a Doctor's knife since I met him five or six years ago. Since he lives near me, he gave me a call and said he had one (again if I wanted it). He got the same answer as Richard. The liners on this one are 410 SS, Bolsters 416 SS; pearl handle with ATS 34 Blades.

While I was picking up the Doctor's knife I asked to see the other stuff Joel had for the show. This small coke bottle pattern in black lip with 18k gold pins and shield decided it was going home with me too.
