O.k. where was I?
The cutting compitition. It was amazing what these guys can do with a well made knife.
The compitition started with the Judges and crew explaining the safety rules and point system while the table and targets were set up. Five different targets with bonus points for some targets finishing up with an all or nothing hanging rope cut.
First was the 2x4 cutting. Man the wood chips were flying! Big John Fitch blazed through his in about 10 seconds for 1st place. MIke Bauer was the slowest with a minute plus. He got a lot of encouragement from the crowd. He gave it his best. At the end he was winded. Just goes to show it's not as easy as it looks.
Next was the stacked coke can cut. One empty can stacked on top of a full one. Cut through the top can and leave the bottom can gets ya points.
Then was a new challange...a plunger put on the wet table top...cut through it without having the cup lose its suction. Since nne of the competators had seen this one before they had to turn their backs till it was their turn to try it. The announcer said it was doable but no one did it at this contest.
Next was a water bottle cut. Cut an empty water bottle top to bottom. If they cut it from the cap to the bottom and had the two pieces of cap stay on their respective halves they got bonus points.
The final cut was the rope cut. points for each rope that they cut. They had to call how many ropes they would cut before hand. Cut all the called ropes they got the points... not a complete cut...no points.
Now on to the pics... Pic one is of the crew setting things up and the contestants turning in their knives for inspection. Pic #2 is a small part of the crowd. Dead center sitting is PhilL. Pic #3 is of the contestants.

More pictures... Pic #1 is of Jerry Lairson taking a swing at the stacked coke cans. Pic #2 is of John Fitch just as his plunger slid accross the table and lost it's suction. This was about the third or forth strike of the knife.
Pic # 3 is of Reggie Barker splitting his empty water bottle. You can see that it was a clean cut. The two halves are low right in the pic. Unfortunately the two halves of the cap didn't stay on.

More pictures...I'll edit in descriptions later...gotta go to work.

O.k. I'm back. Pic one is John Fitch working on his plunger just before it slid accross the table and popped off.
Pic 2 is of Jerry Lairson working on his plunger.
Pic 3 is of Jim Crowell working on his plunger.
All came close but no one actually got it.
Pic 4 is of Danbo watching the compitition.
Pic 5 is John Fitch getting ready to take a swing at his choice of 2 ropes. In the yellow shirt in the background is Pendentive.
If I missed something or got a name wrong let me know so I can change it. No disrespect intended.

Tom,
thanks for the pics. Cutting competitions have always fascinated me. The ability to cut a water bottle lengthwise is beyond my imagination
