Does anyone know approximately how many custom makers were exhibiting at this new show?...

Cheers/bg

been following my peeps on IG and the show looks amazing! Definitely going to have to make sure I add the show to next year's schedule

This should help: https://bladeshowwest.com/show/exhibitor-list/

I couldn't make it this year either but I really hope to next year. It's so awesome to finally have the hope of being able to go to a blade show since Portland is just a few hour drive from me (SeaTac area). I've been into knife making for probably 9 years now and I've never been to a show or a hammer-in. Actually, I've never even met another knife maker in real life lol.

Just returned home from day 2 of the show. I really had a good time. Amount of custom makers seemed about equal in size, if not maybe a tiny bit smaller than the Eugene show though, so was a bit disappointed there. That said, the quality of maker was higher than Eugene show and MUCH more diversified. But still NOWHERE near the level of talent that blade gallery's 2 Seattle shows had a few years back. Bladeshow should really get Daniel from BG involved in promotion as he pulled off more i think, with much less resources.

The big names booths were a nice touch also. Couldn't resist finally buying a OTF Microtech at a price i never imagined seeing one for sale after a little haggling. And the amount of supplies was most i had ever witnessed on the west coast. spent FAR more than i had planned, but when you get Tru Grit, Cullpepper, Alphaknifesupply, Larry Davis woods, Diskins carbon fiber, NJSB and a good dozen other suppliers all in one place it's not going to end well for a wallet.

Talked with a lot of buddies with booths and they said sales were pretty slow, but that they came into it expecting as much being it's first year. What really surprised me was a few of the regular suppliers at Eugene mentioned that as of saturday at least, their sales were better at Eugene than at bladewest. Which is odd because bladewest had massively more people attending it than Eugene ever has.

All that said, i think next years will be even better, and keep on growing for at least the foreseeable future. Just needs a few tweaks, better advertising/promotion leading up to it, and maybe a bit more events during it. Was only a couple things going on each day.

It was my first knife show. Pretty good mix of custom makers, production, equipment, and collections for sale.

Was able to meet a lot of makers for the first time, including the Ben Tendick, Salem Straub, CAS brothers, Bruce Bump, David Lisch, James Helm, sheath maker David Brown, and my friend Jarrod Todd (who had a table full of great knives).
I was able to pick up a unique little straight edge knife from Jarrod Todd, some of his steel, and a Kwaken from Ben Tendic. I'll have to post some pics later!!

I enjoyed the show, and liked finally meeting some of the makers I have only talked to either on these forums or by email. I was able to meet Claudio and Marcel from CAS knives. It was nice to finally meet them after only having email contact or watching for their forum postings. I was able to talk with Brian Tighe and get a feel for his knives in person. (I have been wanting a Tighe Breaker for a few years now - and was able to talk to him about the specifics of the knife) I also met the guys from Bastinelli and Krudo knives - both which I have knives from. Also, a lot of the local makers were there, who were also at the Eugene show.

My biggest complaint was that the parking was not very easily marked and drove around a bit before finding the convention center parking entrance. (even though I live here, I rarely go downtown - and the last time I was at the convention center, I think was a lowrider show like 20 years ago!)

I do agree that there could be a bigger focus on advertising the show. Even the Marquee outside the convention center didn't show that the Blade Show was in town.
(or if it did, I didn't see it)

I do think this was a much better location than at the Ramada (or whatever hotel it was) by the airport - the last time the show was in town. (like 10 years ago)
hopefully with better marketing this show will be able to sustain a nice run in Portland.
