Just returned home from day 2 of the show. I really had a good time. Amount of custom makers seemed about equal in size, if not maybe a tiny bit smaller than the Eugene show though, so was a bit disappointed there. That said, the quality of maker was higher than Eugene show and MUCH more diversified. But still NOWHERE near the level of talent that blade gallery's 2 Seattle shows had a few years back. Bladeshow should really get Daniel from BG involved in promotion as he pulled off more i think, with much less resources.
The big names booths were a nice touch also. Couldn't resist finally buying a OTF Microtech at a price i never imagined seeing one for sale after a little haggling. And the amount of supplies was most i had ever witnessed on the west coast. spent FAR more than i had planned, but when you get Tru Grit, Cullpepper, Alphaknifesupply, Larry Davis woods, Diskins carbon fiber, NJSB and a good dozen other suppliers all in one place it's not going to end well for a wallet.
Talked with a lot of buddies with booths and they said sales were pretty slow, but that they came into it expecting as much being it's first year. What really surprised me was a few of the regular suppliers at Eugene mentioned that as of saturday at least, their sales were better at Eugene than at bladewest. Which is odd because bladewest had massively more people attending it than Eugene ever has.
All that said, i think next years will be even better, and keep on growing for at least the foreseeable future. Just needs a few tweaks, better advertising/promotion leading up to it, and maybe a bit more events during it. Was only a couple things going on each day.
