It's in Portland, so it would be very "doable" for me to go there. However, I have never been to that show, and I don't know if it's worth it. Can anyone who has experience going to this show chime in?

Thx,

Joss

Joss-

I think it's going to be really hard to predict how it will go. Many of us northwest makers are gonna make an effort to go that didn't go when it was in CA. It's obviously much less cost prohibitive for me, now that it's a little over an hour drive away.

I think many makers are willing to give it at least one shot in its new location.

All the reports I've gotten were that last year it was quite poor in many ways.

Five years ago it was one of the shows to make.
Been going downhill and I always hoped it would get better. Both in people going and makers in attendence.
Two years ago it was a pleasent surprise.New makers and makers that were not there before. It was great.
Did not attend last year for some reason

I hope it works out in Portland.I will be there and hope other people support it..Portland is a city of knives and great tittie bars. :D :D :D
Randy :D :D

Like nifrand, I didn’t go last year but I attended the four previous years. It is a nice show. I like the Bowie and I really didn’t see very many at any of the shows I attended. Nevertheless, I had a blast.
I think the show will be a lot better off in Oregon for some reason.

I went for many years when it was in California. Two years I go it wasn't worth the gas money to drive out there, had problems with the hotel, etc. and scratched it off my list. The last year I went, it really wasn't even worth the price of admission IMHO.

Now that it has moved, I might reconsider going.

Hopefully it will be a better show for custom knives than Eugene was this year. I have never been to Blade west but will sure attend it this year.

I went about 5 years ago and the show was a dead dog. Makers sweating, buyers remorsing, you know the drill. California is a great draw for some $$$, but I am thinking that the Collectors Show may turn out to be a better event than the old Blade West for location reasons and promoter reasons.

Portland is a great 1/2 way between knife-crazy Seattle and Cali.

I am hoping it works out. I still think Atlanta rocks for a knife show and am very confused why there is only one per year...............

Been brought to my attention, forum is about knives not tits.Yep
Sorry.
Randy

Back to knives.

I have a good friend in this business and he is of the opinion there are too many knife shows. I agree. And because of this,as a collector, I can pick and choose.Great for collector,Bad for purveyors and makers.
I have been the head of a knife club for the last 5 years and have been a part of putting on a show. One of the problems was timing,or when to put on the show.Very hard to schedule a show with so many shows.
I also think Blade West is one of the shows that WAS at the wrong time of year and kind of an afterthought. Now that it is later in the year I think it will have a niche.I hope.
West coast needs all the shows it can get.
Just my opinion

Randy

PS Never been to the Collectors Show. Not my type of show.Ritz and Glitz doesn't belong at knife shows. I'm just a down home kind of guy.Solvang is about my limit. Also just my opinion.

Anthony, you raise a good question. Is there any talk of making Blade in Atlanta twice a year? Why not?
David

Always wanted to go to a Blade show. This one will finally be close enough for me to attend. I am taking a vacation day to make sure I don't miss it.

A couple questions for any past attendees:

- Do you have to obtain special tickets or can anybody and everybody attend by just showing up at the door and paying their money?

- Is there an early viewing (like Friday of the Oregon (OKCA) show)?
Thanks,

Tony,

It is from 9/30/2005 to 10/2/2005 at the Portland Airport Holiday Inn Conference Center in Portland, Oregon.

I have a table. Its nice to have a major show so close to home for us. We never made it when it was in Cal. I expect to show a good variety including the axe/gun. Finally have had some time in the shop. Cant wait!

I went to the show last two years as it was very close to me in CA. I'm dissapointed it moved. You should go if you can. It was one of the few shows out here so was a must for me. Found lots of new makers and found out things about some that during some seminars that took them OFF my list.
If you do go try to make the seminars. You find out a lot there.
