I'll be there. It will be my first time also. It was my "it's only a knife" who suggested we go because the travel agent handling the BCCI cruise is gonna be there. Who am I to argue? See you there!

I'll be there again this year. Always look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones.

I am doing a display of Buck Selectors at Blade. I am looking forward to the sensory overload. Something like a one eyed dog in a meat house.

I'm trying to find a hotel near the show what would you suggest? Looks like there are plenty to choose from but being my 1st time going just curious where most stay? Thanks and I'll see you there.

nosa,
My recommendation to you is to use one of the mapping applications to search for places around the Cobb Galleria. All nearby seem OK, but prices vary. Eating joints are up and down the road.

To first time BCCI or Buck knife attenders...

if you are bringing a Buck display you have to contact the club President John Foresman or you will not have a spot. Space is limited and is valued by some. I have cut to half a table and may go to no display if more BCCI folks would bring your knives. And I mean new people, not giving it to the ole guys that always want just one more table. If you display and you set up Thurs. afternoon, be ready for no A/C so you will sweat. Also plan for no electricity for display lights, once in a while you can be lucky and we have a floor plug on one aisle. Friday is the day you can browse the building, and talk to other BCCI people in a calm environment. That is unlikely Saturday. I will also try to take everyone's photograph by their display on Friday or Sunday. We will have a large BCCI sign high in the air so you can always see the way home. You can play it by ear on whether to sit or stand by your display, if at all, no rule says you have to be there. Usually folks gather in groups to talk. Usually up by the large sign or at the entrances to the rows. Wear comfortable shoes. I use a foldable cart to carry 'stuff' from car, usually camera gear , etc. I leave my display cloth covers, my box of tape, paper towels, pliers, etc. under my table. If you are a first timer you will wish you had some type of special table cover under your display. Some guys use fancy covers with printed logs etc. I just use some fake leather under mine that goes to the floor in front. If you want people to have your personal card then you need some of them to lay out by your display. If you have NOT looked over last years Blade Show post I did, go back to last year about late June or July and look over the photos. Two metal chairs will be provided for each table. I bring a nice cushion to sit on, I use my Turkey hunting cushion. Most people have investigated bringing and building a display but if you just have one with no locked door, I would suggest fixing it to lock. Security is good at night but when there is fifty people jammed in the aisle in front of your display you want your own security. Lots of guys bring a light cloth large enough to cover your display at night. If you try to bring in a ice chest bigger than a lunch box you will likely have trouble.

For Buck guys visiting we will be on your right in the rear as you come in front entrance. Right at rear of the used knife sellers. If you see a knife you want and walk away, it likely will be gone when you come back. If you are bringing wife and kids, especially little ones be prepared for crowded conditions. Usually only a small area of chairs and tables to eat at are available. If you want some knife building stuff, or sheaths or polishing crème or stuff you buy, write it down on note paper and put it in your pocket. You will be overstimulated upon entering and will not remember. BCCI custom knives will be viewed under big sign. Restrooms are at the front wall/entrance if need be go before you get caught in the crowd and endless knife stimulation. Over in the Tech. area there will be girls in tight shirts and they will give away stuff every hour and shoot off canons that can scare babies and kids. The Buck knife factory booth is against the front wall about the middle. CJ will sign your knife if he is present at that moment.

If anyone can think of anything to add please do, if anyone has questions please ask. 300Bucks

Well,

I didn't give all the facts. On Saturday afternoon, the BCCI will have its BladeShow meeting. The Buck folks will be there, and officers and pretty good number of people. We will have awards, I bet Mrs. Buck will give us some words of thanks and wisdom, we will talk about the future and then auction off a couple of one of kind knives. Then at the end Joe Houser will bring out his special knives he has gathered up and some he has customized himself, and those will be offered for sale on a lottery basis. Also some guys will have some knives to sell on their own, including some custom knives made by custom knife makers you know. A few wives will maintain the Buck show area while we are in the meeting room. The show starts shutting down on Sunday, a couple hour after lunch. Lights are turned down, A/C goes off, cars line up to be allowed to big doors to load. Its almost more amazing to watch the tear down as it is to watch the put up.
The displayers will help each other by watching packed displays as cars are retrieved and moved to loading area.

There you go you have 1,000 % more info about what was going to happen than I did the first time I went. But, the world goes on. I even took a short nap behind my display on Friday last year and no one took funny photos of me. I won't make that promise to you...ha

I wish I had been there and caught you napping. Also the tables at this show are like half the size of normal cafeteria tables. (normal show tables) So, your display that fit on a regular table at a show will have to be scaled down for this show. Have fun and take some pictures. DM

Very important point David. Yes, half width tables. In reality, if you just decided you want to bring a display to the show you are behind the eight ball already. Likely, all spots have been reserved. You can't just show up with a display for a day and then leave. You have to commit yourself for the show. As I said, once set up you are free to roam about.

If any of this appeals to you, plan for next year now. View the past photos of the show, view the photos we will post on the Buck forum. Contact the BCCI president John Foresman for discussion on a display. And then start creating. I know some of the guys have had their display up in their basement for a month or two. Tweaking details, getting their knives turned just so.....I didn't mention that we all compete to win with our display in a dozen different categories. You win a free knife, fixed up special by Joe Houser. We all get a ballot and vote on the categories. So a really well designed, nice made, smaller display of neat knives can win.

Even if you don't display, people east of the Mississippi owe it to themselves to come to the show at least once. Its like the superbowl of the knife world. Several people travel from the West Coast and Rockies. They get the tuff it up award from me. Will get the photos here sometime in June so standby. 300Bucks

Yes your display needs to be of museum quality. With little details about the knives typed out and that paper stuck beside the model. At the Blade show, there may be folks stop and read all that. It's the only show you'll see that activity occur. Give attention to every little detail. DM
