I had an opportunity to spend about 15 minutes speaking with Sal and Eric Glesser yesterday at Blade Show. If you have never met them I can assure you that they are the two of the most genuine, unassuming and knowledgeable people that I have met. We spoke about several of the new models and blade steels. Now I know why the Spyderco knives are so good - the Glessers care about their craft and customers.

Have to buy a new Spyderco now. Hmmm...

Last year or the year before, my wife and I got to talk to Sal and... oh hell, now I forget his wife's name. Both are salt of the earth, she was playing with a spyderfly the whole time, lol... a real firecracker, that one ;) Very approachable people.

I can second that and add kudos to the other folks in the Spyderco booth.

I have to agree with the others, Sal is very gracious with his time. This was the second time I was able to speak with him. If you ever get the chance to talk with him, he is very approachable, very knowledgeable and very enthusiastic about his products. I was really impressed that he took the time to listen to me whine about bringing back the Starmate.

Sorry, no pics of the prototypes.....they had a sign asking that no photos were to be taken.

The Lum tanto folder really caught my eye and would be on my "must purchase" list. The Puko(sp?) was pretty sweet. Honestly, I spent more time talking to Sal than eyeing the prototypes. Oh, and if anyone is interested, when I brought up the subject of bringing back the Starmate, Sal didn't immediately shoot me down :)

As far as knives in already production the Gayle Bradley looked good in photos, but after handling one it gets bumped to "must purchase" status. The Lum Chinese looked a lot better in person than it does in pictures, it may need to get bump to my "want" list.

I was actually going to order a custom from Brad Southard until I noticed that spyderco had a prototype of one of his designs..very awesome. I had the most fun speaking with the Glessers..ridiculously nice people. As were Mr. Janich and Mr. Schemp. The lionspy and techno are a must buy for me

I too saw Sal... It was neat just to see him to be honest! :) I assume Eric is his son and was the gentleman with the beard? Looked just like Sal! :) The booth was pretty busy both times I passed. But it was cool to see Sal just chatting with people. The neatest part was it seemed (and Im sure its true) he is still really into his company and product. You can tell by the way he genuinely engages his customers. (I tend to do more observing than talking LOL).

Oh, but I did get to hold a Stretch. One heck of a nice knife and probably my next Spydie! Oh they even had the Byrds there! Love the Byrd knives!!

Eric and Sal Glesser are as nice as they come. Sal probably spoke to me for at least 30+ mins (I kept deferring to others who arrived at the booth so as not to hog his time but he just kept me in conversation). When I told him how enamored I am with the new Bushcrafter, he introduced me to the designer of it, Chris Claycombe, and I went and spoke with him about 15 yards from the Spyderco booth. Sal left the booth and came and stood with us and carried on with the conversation probably for another 30+ mins. Or maybe it just felt like that.

It was an honor meeting you. Thank you.

I'd be happy with VG10 or s30v, drilled liners on both sides and a tip up carry option.

Id love to see the starmate back in production... M390 would be nice :D

Japanese made knives need Japanese steel, otherwise the price would be out of reacdh for 75% or more. Hitachi Super Blue is a fantastic steel, trust me ;)
