I got home Monday night after a 12 hour drive from Atlanta and the Blade Show. As usual, it was fantastic. Only 2 complaints and I'll get them out of the way immediately. The A/C seemed to be overwhelmed by the outside temps and the amount of people inside. Friday was like a sauna, upon returning to the motel all the business cards I had in my shirt pocket were like wet spaghetti. Sat. and Sun. were a little better, but I was drenched every day. The second thing was a young blond girl working the advanced ticket booth, she was rude and totally lost at all tasks asked of her.
Other than that the show was incredible and I had a ball!
On to the good stuff. ESEE got most of my money, I bought a Junglas, an ESEE3, ESEE6 and an Izula2. Plus some small stuff like packs of survival cards. The people at the booth were great and called me "money bags" after all I had bought. I came upon the Mantis booth and was impressed with their stuff. My woman bought me the MT-9d Tough Tony folder. This is a tank of a knife and you can see it in Blade magazine August issue. It's thick blade opens easily and locks solid with a liner lock. It pivots on a rolling pin that you can adjust the pressure on. She got a sweet little neck knife from them that is a circle, about 3inches or so in diameter with a T handle on top that the chain goes through. You pull down on the circle and a talon shaped blade pulls out that is small but frightening. It looks great and can help in bad situations. The other knives they had were equally tough and well made. This is a company on the upswing that offers great knives at reasonable prices. I highly recommend them.
We moved on to the Ka-Bar booth and bought 2 of the new ZK (zombie killer) knives. These look great with their neon green handles. I got the parang shaped blade and my woman got the tanto. She also bought a BK-2 for her daughters boyfriend. I talked a while with Ethan and asked him about patterning the BK-2 after the British Int. MOD knife. He confirmed that it was his inspiration, and he made me laugh by saying that he made the BK-2 because the MOD was so poorly made.
I also bought an Xc-est Alpha from TOPS. It's a nice little survival knife for my woman's BOB with a small kit also. Over to Blind Horse Knive's booth and I got an orange handled Bushcrafter with a sweet leather sheath and a firesteel. My sweetie got a neck knife with green micarta scales with a skinner shaped blade. These people are all first class, and these knives are beautiful.
Over to Camillus and we picked up small folder for her father. Carbonitride Titanium coating, carbon fiber scales, VG-10 steel. Looks and feels great, we'll see how it works out. I'm hoping this new company can bring the pride back to it's famous name.
On to Buck's booth and I got a fabulous 3 knife kit in a overlap sheath. It's called the Packlite Field Master. The knives are a gut hook, baby skinner and a recurve drop point. Nice addition to any bag. I also got a Bucklite Max, the orange handled Boone and Crocket model. A reasonably priced beater to have fun with. I wanted a few more of Bucks knives but I had wandered by the Wicked Edge booth and bought the deluxe sharpening setup. It was backlogged and will be delivered in 6 to 8 weeks.
Well, that's all I could gather up but it was a great time. Anyone who hasn't been to the show should start saving up for it, nothing can compare. Seminars and chopping contests to new releases and great company. Check it out if you can!
