I have noticed that most Uncle Henry knives have a stamp as follows:
Uncle Henry
SCHRADE +
USA LB8
My knife has a stamp as follows:
Uncle Henry
SCHRADE +
LB8 USA
(with the lettering in the last line reversed)
What is the significance of this difference? Does it indicate a date of manufacture range?

The study of tang stamps, letter style, and placement is a science all its own when it comes to collecting traditionals.

could it be that the guy who did the stamping just got bored and did it on purpose?
I have two pairs of english vise grips that were my granddads-one stamped MOLE and t'other ELMO.

Not likely. The machine operator is not the setup man nor the die sinker.

The die is all one piece and one does not simply switch words around.

That's what I thought -I was just theorizing .
Someone must have done it though?!
Perhaps when they changed to a new year or run or something.

Stamping dies were usually changed out when one became worn or broken. If you build a spreadsheet and a photoarchive, you might eventually figure out when the die changed, approximately. That would be via logos and addresses on the boxes and paperwork.
