How does one tell what kind of steel is in the Leek? I have seen some with 440a advertised, and on Kershaws website, they say they are using Sandvik 12c26. I wouldn't mind one with the swedish steel, but I don't want the 440a. I see they have production dates on their blades, anybody know when they started with the 12c26?

Are you sure your asking about the chive ?

On the Kershaw website all 9 chives listed are stated as being made with 420HC stainless steel.

I'm still new to the Kershaw crowd and I'm probably wrong, but I'm sure someone will come along soon that knows more.:)

Right now all the leeks are still using 440A. This has been addressed MANY times and Thomas from Kershaw told us he would let us know when the change-over is complete.

Keep in mind that many of the standard leeks we buy were shipped from Kershaw months ago. Once the retailers and online distributors sell thru the existing stock of Leeks, etc. then Kershaw will ship their remaining stock of 440A inventory. Only then will the vendors/retailers begin to recieve the Sandvik stuff. The marketing will just have to be handled accordingly.

You can always play it safe and go for one of the S30V models. The 1660G10 is the current S30V model. There are many of the older G10/S30V models still floating around out there, like the 1660PGT, 1660CGT and 1660CGTST.

You could also wait impatiently (like the rest of us) for the Damascus Leek that is due out some time soon.

So far the Damascus Leek has not really been discussed in detail other than there will be about 500 pieces hopefully some time in July.

Here are two of the threads where they are mentioned.
