What do you all think I should go with on the Reif #2...CPM420V or Mike Norris CPM420V core ladder damascus? What are the pros / cons? Thanks again.

Go for the Mike Norris damascus. You get 420V to cut with and damascus to look at. How good can it get.

At least that's what I'd do if wifey would let me spend any money. But I already have a Reif with Werth damascus and G10 w/titanium liners. LOVE IT! I carry it every day and it looks and cuts like a dream

Great to hear from ya man.

Well, I'm afriad that the damascus will fade, or scratch...and I don't want that.

I've been tryin'to get the opinion of some guys who have experience with carrying / using ss damacsus, but most just say they are either afraid to use it, or it's just for looks. ...and I hate to keep buggin' Dale about it.

Thanks for the info Gary!!!

Jackyl,

Good mornin'. At least it seems good so far.

As a matter of principal I don't think I would use a high dollar folder for real tough work like I would one of my fixed blades. But my Werth carbon steel damascus is holding up real well in every day situations, and of course if push came to shove I wouldn't worry about scratching it up a bit if my life depended on it. I would think the stainless damascus would be even better in that regard.

You might even think about a high polish on the damascus instead of the high contrast. That way the small everyday scratches wouldn't show at all.

Just my opinion though on that since I've never really carried that steel.

Jackyl, go for the Damascus. I am presently working out the details on my next knife and this is my steel of choice (raindrop pattern). Pretty pricey stuff when compared to others but I believe the end results are worth it. This knife is going to be purchased with the intention of being my everyday and general purpose carry. While costly, it will be used (not abused though)as I want to fully enjoy the looks and performance of this knife as often as possible. If you do manage to scratch, fade or stain the blade, I am sure that Dale would happily recondition the blade or tell you how to do it. I have a Kelgin bird & trout with Damascus blade and have not really had any problems with it worth correcting. If you have the opportunity to acquire such a potentially beautiful piece of hardware and are prepared to use it, by all means, go for it. I, for one, eagerly await the day when I will be able to do the same.

It's only a mistake if you fail to learn from it!

Hey, thanks a lot guys.

Blademan, I too prefer the raindrop pattern, that's why I chose it for the bolsters, however, Mike N., and Darrel Ralph both agree, that Mike's ladder pattern easily out performs any other pattern. That's my reasoning behind it. Just something for you to consider when getting yours man.

Thanks for the tip Jackyl, I guess I never thought that the pattern would effect the performance. Damn, just when I thought I had worked everything out, something else comes up

No problem man...I'm tryin' to gather all the info I can before I spend so much money. I'll share any info I've acquired so far...if you have any info, or want to ask me anymore questions, just ask...maybe between the two of us, we can get ALL the necessary info.
