I'm considering a custom built knife. Can someone explain some blade steels for me. They are 420V/440V, Damesteel, or Noris raindrop damascus. What are some of the +/-of each.

all of this stuff is what the forums are about, and if you look around, you can find long threads on each of the subjects.. what you are asking for is a four page treatise, so i suggest you go to www.crucible.com to review Crucible Particle Metalurgy...the V steels....Damasteel AB has their own website, the last one i know nothing about, but K&G Knife and Gun Supplies has a lot of nice damascus pictured on their website, dont know the url offhand, but its easy to find. In my opinion 420V and Talonite are the two best knife steels today...for all around features including rust resistance, you can read about Talonite at www.carbideprocessors.com and at Rob Simonichs website, which is also easy to find.
