I ordered a Specwar model from an online dealer and was told that the blade steel was CM-154, according to the EK catalog. I checked the website and the material listed is ATS-34 for all models. My CQC-7B is ATS-34, but I prefer CM-154. Can someone clear this up for me? Thank you.

ATS-34 and CM-154 is the same steel just one is made here(US/cm-154)and the other in japan.

...but which one does Emerson use in the Specwar? I'll have to look some more, but are they exactly the same? CM-154 seems sharper to me, at least as it is deployed on the MT SOCOM.

For all intensive purposes the two steels are pretty much the same. They differ only very slightly in composition but 154CM is basically the U.S. version of ATS-34 as tattoo stated. Microtech has a reputation of producing very sharp knives out of the box so they may seem sharper but other knives can be brought to that level as well.

It depends on when you got your Specwar. I'm guessing it's ATS-34 because I do not think the change was made until this year with the LaGriffes and new batch of Ravens. The Specwar you have was probably made last year so it's ATS-34. I do not know what tests you could do to tell the difference though.

Hope this helps,

Jason

Thank you for your reply. The knife hs "99" written on it, so I'm pretty sure it was made this year. Unlike other high-end production knives the Specwar doesn't have the blade steel written/etched onto it. Strange....

EK has looked at many steels and for now the steel of choice is ATS-34.

Look for an all Titanium La Griffe though which should be out soon.
