I'm hoping to get a Hinderer knife some day and really like the looks of the skinner blade. As an edc type of knife would this be an impractical choice if you could only purchase one? Do they become available very often? For a knife that would be carried every day, what would be the the most useful blade configuration? Thanks in advance.

As you read through some of the threads you will see this discussed in several different ways, IF just one (IMO) the 3.5" XM18 Spanto flipper is the one to have BUT some like a non-flipper, slicer or 3".
As for the skinner and its availability and suitability for EDC.... that is a Custom grind and more rare.
If I had one - I'd be EDCing it and loving life.
As far as "useful" I say ALL Hinderers are at least that and more, which one fits you best is bioth personal and a question for the ages :)
My vote is as stated though.

Thank you for your reply. Do you happen to know if the alternate pricing applies to Corrections Officers? I'm starting my 25th year soon and I might have to buy myself a little something just because.

Rick and Rob set company policy and can best address that. Certainly drop Rob Orlando an email, his address is linked in his sig line.

Ha! Gimme a minute, im old remember. Actually trying to type on this damn phone...

If the choice is between spanto and slicer...... SPANTO!

If you get to custom grinds, it's more subjective (as is my opinion above, I guess). Visually I love the skinner. I'd go with that in a second if available to me!

I have had 15 XM's in all 3 sizes. ALL have been spanto except one xm24 slicer. I disliked the slicer 2 seconds after opening the package, thats why I have it listed for sale. For me, its spanto all the way. I do feel like many others that a xm18 3.5" Spanto flipper is the best all around. The flipper is cool and all, but I like the fact it serves as an excellent guard when using the knife heavily, Thats what I love about the flipper the most. I have had non flippers and really dont care for them because there are other makers that I can get if I want a non flipper, the flipper is what makes the xm special.

Skinners are difficult to come by...
I normally rotate a few different Hinderers as my edc but recently have been carrying a Skinner everyday and enjoy it in every aspect! It is a great grind!

I believe they are "difficult to come by" because you have most of them .

:D

It's been covered, Skinners are sweet but are "customs" so they are a lot more difficult to find than "productions".

And if you're looking for votes on what configuration to order(if qualify), my vote most often goes to Spanto Flipper as a first or only.

Spanto w/o flipper isn't a dud either. ;)

There is no "wrong" choice/configuration. It just, very simply, boils down to personal preferences. Some love 3.5 flippers clipped to their pockets, others like a 3" or 3.5" non-flipper inside their pocket. And so on...

I EDC a Skinner currently and have rotated a spanto, slicer, bowie, and others. The OP asked specifically about a Skinner and its practicality as an EDC so I shared my thoughts based on my personal experience. As asked...if someone wanted to purchase just one Hinderer...would a Skinner be a practical choice as an edc...may answer would be absolutely! The Skinner is my favorite grind! :D

If that darn basket ever brings me and a skinner together it might very-well oust my current EDC. Well, unless a Spearpiont flipper is a option at the time, that is...:)

Well I certainly hope you score a Skinner...you will absolutely love it!:D

I know there isn't a bad combo. Unjust wanted to throw in a hat tip for the nonflipper. ;)

With you and P atop the skinner game, I'm unsure the likelihood, but I keep an open mind and positive attitude. Always wanting, yet most often content at the same time.
