Don't know if this issue has ever been discussed, but here goes :D
I have two Lg. plan sebes, one Box elder inlay and a flat ground signed (By CR) piece.
I'm going to send them back for the swedge and double thumblug mod. The thought that crosses my mind is to take the flat ground blade and have it put on the inlay Sebe. CRK would merely have to do some minor adjusting, right?
My thought is that I would then have a nice EDC, in the plain handled Sebe w/. hollow ground-convex blade (BG-42), and a nicer inlay with a fairly rare flat ground blade that I could carry on nicer occasions.
Have any of you Sebeholics ever done this or thought about it? Am I just bastidising two knives with two legitamate B-days or could I be putting together a pretty rare knife? No ones heard of a Lg. Plain Box Elder inlay w/. flat ground blade lately, right? :D
Give me some feedback because I'm sending them both in at the end of the week and I need to make a decision. Thanks, Robert

I would think that CRK could probably set this up ok. You can't just willy-nilly go swapping blades at random, because each one is fit to a given lock scale, and the swapped blades might not lock up as they should. I asked a similar question, involving a cgg and a flat ground, but the response to my post was to just change the face scale, not the blades.

Hope this helps a bit,
Frank

Frank, you can't swap with a wood because the back scale would not "match" then. It would have a wood front and a plain back and a plain front and a wood back...... well you could but this is not the "frost" forum ;) I am not sure if the blades can be refitted? I know you can have another fitted to a sebenza but do not know if they can do what you wish.....

Paul,
It's the Flat ground that I bought from you that I'm thinking about making these mods. too.
It's probably the wrong thing to do, but sounded like such an easy way to have a EDC that had a fairly regularly available blade/handle combo (which wouldn't hurt if I beat it up a little. That first scratch is a killer) + a harder to find inlay/flat ground pair. I wouldn't have to worry about boogering up the EDC and the inlay would be more of a collectors piece with a nice harder to find blade.
I guess the easy answer would be to just pick up a Lg. plain, and put the other two aside but that's too easy!! :D ;) + that means more money and you know I'm broke Paul. :(
But I will be in touch!!
Thanks Frank for the help. I used the same logic as you till I remembered the back side of the inlay. Robert

Robert, Have a silver inlay put on the flatground.... may I suggest the calvary scene? it would be the first decorated flat ground that I know of..... and pretty darn RARE !!!

Paul, you're killing me!! Actually my wallet:mad: Plus it would be another Sebe I wouldn't want to just use for any old thing. Don't get me wrong, I want one :D , but after I get an EDC I can feel comfortable sratching up from daily use. I think I would cringe if one of my current ones or the one you have now were to get dinged up. My collection at this time isn't big enough, but I'm working on it. I do like that calvery scene and when I do get one I'll be asking for the cochobon also :D
You are the man!! Thanks again, Robert

I carry my flat ground large sebbie, either clipped in my pocket or in a sheath, almost every day since I've gotten it. I'll trade off with my line drive one on some days, but always carry the line drive in either its leather slip case, or a nylon belt sheath. I wouldn't want to scratch up the face if I can help it, but the flat ground can be reconditioned pretty easily by CRK- a little beadblasting, and it's good as new.

I wanted a wood Damascus Sebi, so what I did was to buy the dark walnut model with a BG-42 blade and send it to CRK to get a Spiral Damascus blade fitted. I have and can interchange both the Damask and BG-42 blades. They both fit perfectly. I hope this can be done for you and my final point would be the people at CRK are the very finest. If it can be done you are in the best hands you could wish for! Good luck.

Thanks for all the input.
General, you are 100% right about CRK's customer service. I've spoken and e-mailed Bridget many times and she has been AWESOME.
My kids are all packed up and ready to be shipped out tomorrow. I think I'll keep the blades on the handles they were born with, but they'll both be getting the small swedge and double thumblugs.
Thanks again for all the help, Robert

Might it be possible for CRK to install a reg. blade in a classic handle? That might be an attractive combination.
