Blade-Tech or Spyderco

I'm looking for a heavy use utility/camping knife. I've narrowed it down to either the Blade-Tech Wegner P H, the Spyderco Manix, or the Para-Military. I would prefer S30V for blade steel as well as a very strong, durable lock mechanism with no blade play. Thanks for your time!

I've had all three, and I think the Spyderco Manix is the best made, real smooth operation even with the very heavy lock.

I've had all three as well. I believe all have s30v steel, so a toss up there.
The Pro Hunter is a liner lock, the Para Military a compression and the Manix a lock back. I think if you ran a poll on this board the majority would give the edge in lock strength to the lock back with the compression running a close second. That would eliminate the Pro Hunter.
The Para Military has a blade length of right at 3", the Manix nearly 4". The PM has a very pointy tip, the Manix more stout, more of a drop point. I would say that per your criteria of utility/heavy duty use this would favor the Manix.
So, after my very unscientific analysis...I say go with the Manix.

ps...just to confuse you a little the PH has my favorite blade shape

Thanks for the input. My only issue with the Manix is that the lock back will not function well when dirty, as well as being difficult to clean. How about the lil' temp? Also, does anyone know of a pro hunter lock failure?

I really like my Lil Temperance. It makes most of my 4" knives feel small and fragile. :) The only downsides I've found are that it is fairly massive and the clip is very tight.

I don't have a Manix, but based on my Chinook I'm inclined to say the Manix is one of the very few knives in the 4" range that I'd trust to be as tough as the LT. Just figure out which blade length you want and get one or the other. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I would think you would have to get a LOT of dirt into your Manix before it would fail to work. Pocket lint won't do it. You have a point though as far as cleaning is concerned. But even the Manix you can give a rinse under the tap if you shake out the water afterwards and give it a drop of lube. As far as the comparison between Manix and Paramilli: The Manix is advertised as MBC, while the Paramilli is (only) heavy duty.

Lil'T: Well, when ever in doubt go with the Lil'T :). Absolutely awesome knife....its not small but that is the only drawback with it. I have read about some complaints about the compression lock from some people here, but I think none of them apply to the lock on the Lil'T. The compression lock on the Lil'T is far and away my favorite lock ever. It is very smooth, dead simple, super reliable (it never sticks, it doesn't change engagement over time and is very strong) and yet very simple to adjust should the need ever arise (pretty much only after you disassembled the knife or removed the blade).

Absolutely agree.

I have the Wegner, also a Spyderco Military, which is just a liner lock...

I think the Wegner is really underrated - its a great knife! Strong, great in the hand, really tight lockup. The blade shape is perfect for utility / food / etc. The only reason I don't carry it every day is that its a little small for the self defense role. If I didn't want that in a folder, the Wegner P.H. would absolutely be my edc knife.
