Anyone know the difference between Blade-Tech's Pro Hunter Magnum and their Pro Hunter Magnum "Exteme" models?

I don't see any reference to what constitutes an "Exteme" model, and it's a $70 upgrade, I must be looking in the wrong place...

Anyone know...?

I believe it is just the black blade coating.

Actually, just to clarify, all the hardware on the Extreme versions is black DLC coated, not just the blade...it's a nice look but...

...still hard to justify a $70 premium...I've had MLEKs in both versions (my favorite BladeTech), but I found the Extreme for considerably less than normal or otherwise would not have been able to justify the extra premium...

Ray :)

is this a pretty tough coating? it seems like a lot of extra money just for a coated blade...

The DLC coating, Diamond Like Coating, is about 80+ on the Rockwell C scale of hardness. Things you cut do not wear off the coating, rather things you cut are worn off by the coating. Just takes a rubbing down with some Windex or other cleaner to remove the material that was scratched on to the DLC coating. This is some very good stuff! With that said I agree with reholli, $70.00 is a very high premium, to my way of thinking.........would I pay it? Probably.:(:)

where's the best place to pick up a Pro Hunter Magnum? New Graham is out, anyone know of another online dealer with any in stock?

I don't know of any other retail fronts that are selling them other than New Grahams---Blade Techs can be hard to find.

I wasn't aware of such a drastic price difference between the coated and uncoated models. The only difference I've seen are the price points between the Pro Hunter Lite, Pro Hunter, and Pro Hunter Magnum versions. The Lite is made overseas with lower end materials, the Pro Hunter American-made with upscale materials, and the Magnum a beefed-up version---thicker blade, and a thicker locking liner as well. I could be wrong---I'm not a hardcore afficianado.

Good luck. :)
