Does anyone have a Blade Tech Responder yet? Any opinions? Does anyone know who has them for sale?

Thanks in advance...

:D

Heres a pic, it's Blade-Tech's rescue knife.

Review halfway down: http://www.equipped.org/shot_show_2007_knives2.htm

There was a little blurb about it in a small section about some of the latest designs out in Blade Magazine not too long ago if you're looking for any information. Did a search on the Responder when I saw it a month or two ago, it looks like a well-thought-out rescue design with some utilitarian applications too. I'll see if I can find the exact issue.

Bingo! A totally usable utility EDC and full feature rescue knife in one.

I just got my Responder today. For anyone considering Stellar Rigs, their service was great and they have the hard to find Blade-Techs.

A mini review.
The fit and finish on the Responder is phenomenal. It reminds me of some of the best Spyderco production pieces, like the Starmate, Manix, Gunting, Lil Temperance, Chinook, etc... While the responder has a Sheep foot tip, there is enough of a point that it works as a utility EDC or even for SD. The Rescue Blur, Gerber Hinderer, and Spyderco Assist (with glass breaker) have so much of the tip rounded and unsharpened that they cannot cut near the tip. The spine on the tip of the Responder is nicely rounded so the blade won't catch when inserting in tight spaces between clothing/seatbelts.

I really like the way the back spacer and pyramid glass breaker point are all one piece. I am always unsure of carbide tips epoxied or press fitted on knife ends. The pyramid point seems to be able to concentrate force for glass breakage, without having a carbide point to snag on your pocket/hand during carry. Another advantage is the Responder back spacer completely surrounds the Oxygen Wrench cut out so there is no contact with the blade. On the Hinderer, the blade edge is visible through the wrench hole.

When gripped closed, the cutout on the blade and jimping seem to act as a guard to prevent slipping of the hand upon striking glass. One thing did seem weird. The serrations are on one side, but sharpened on both sides. Not sure why. At any rate, the plain edge portion was scary sharp and the serrations could smoothly shave newspaper, but could probably bite tough materials very well.

Overall an A+ A high end, full feature rescue knife and utlity EDC all in one!

Oh, just a quick BTW. I love my Rescue Blur, Assist, and Hinderer. They are terrific tools and probably are saving lives on a regular basis. But they are too focused to be utility EDCs, IMHO...

Hence the rave review on the Responder...

Newgraham.com has it in stock. The plain edge. For 99.99. Best Price all arround. I ll get mine tomorrow. Will let you know about it.

There is a thread with a review of the Responder. It was actually quite positive. I will look for it. I've been meaning to get one too but other purchases have put it on the back burner.
