I am looking at a few of the Blade Tech folders and notice a lot of similarity to Spyderco's as far as blade and handle design. I am wondering if Spyderco makes the knives for Blade Tech. To me the BT lite hunter looks real similar to the Byrd Cara Cara..... Not a bad thing if they do make them, just curious.

Tim Wegner is the president of Blade-Tech. He did some designs for Spyderco before starting his own company. That is probably why you see a similarity.

We make all of our "high-end" product here at the Blade-Tech factory in Lakewood, WA. Our "Lite" versions are made in Taiwan to our quality specifications.:D

Thanks for the answers.. I am glad to see that most are made in house. I have used Blade-Tech holsters for quite a few years and have always been happy with them, I guess its time to try one or two of the knives....

No problem Bro,
I hang out over there a lot. More people seem to know us over there, but I'm doing my best to be interactive in both circles because I know that one day more people over here will get to know us!:D

Hi Shavin'Sharp, I've just bought a Blade-Tech Mouse Lite & the blurb that comes with it says "Made in Japan" not Taiwan. What's correct ?

i dont think its kosher to put a link to USN on BF, the owners of both sights are gonna object, wait and see............

Shavin Sharp, keep up the high quality work. I have an MLEK, a Mouse, and the RIJJBACK ( SPELLING?) should be here tuesday. I have around a hundred spydercos and find Blade tech to have similar attention to quality and ergonomics as the Seki and Golden made Spyders. Materials are similar, like G10 & S30V. Good stuff. Joe

It's Rijbak and it's a great ti frame lock. You are gonna love it! You saw mine in the pics I posted and in person it's so well fitted, with a heavy spear point blade. IMO you won't find a frame lock as well fitted.

After reading your reviews JJ, I just ordered one today. I rerally like how the specs read on this one!

Welcome to BF, cm64!:)

BladeTech had them (the "lite" versions) made in Seki City, Japan for a while, but they have recently moved production to Taiwan. You got one of the older versions if yours says "Seki City, Japan" on it.

Regards,
3G

Thanks 3G, very interesting. Mine does have Seki-City Japan etched on the clip. The Mouse Lite is a great small knife. I'm very happy with it, its exactly what I want for EDC. If one looks at the finish very very carefully there are a couple of very small imperfections but overall well made.

Their USA made lineup has an almost Spyderco level of quality. The only beef I have with the MLEK is the lack of a sufficient cutout at the lock release. Easily solved with a Dremel tool I suppose but a fellow shouldn't have to hack on a knife that costs a hundred bucks. Other than that, if this thing had a round hole and the aforementioned cutout, it could have easily passed for a Golden-produced Spyderco knife.

Same league, different ballpark.
