Could someone explain the relationship between Blade-tech, Wenger and Spyderco? Did Spyderco make knives for Blade-tech? Where does Wenger fit in? Or maybe there's no relation at all.

steve

Tim Wenger owns Blade-Tech. He designed a couple of knives that Spyderco produced. Tim is now producing his own knives through Blade-Tech.

Thanks, glockman, I had guessed that Tim Wenger had designed some knives but wasn't sure about the rest.

And they are damn fine knives indeed. My favorite production knives by far are the Wegner designed ones. Fit my hand like a glove.

So, why the Mouse 2 is not a Spyderco? After the Mouse 1 and so many collaborations (past and present), how did the Mouse 2 escape the spydertrap?

You'd have to get the answer for that one from Sal.:).

If I am not mistaken the Blade-Tech knives are being manufactured by Imperial Schrade. I believe that the Mouse and Wegner clipit designs are being licenced to Blade-Tech by Spyderco.

Don't forget the Wegner Professional Hunter (former C48)

I have this one on order, too bad it doesn't have the round hole...

And, it's Wegner right? (not Wenger...)

Ted

Edited to turn 'Pro' into 'Wegner Professional' as per Tim Wegner's response :);):D

Yes.
When I first saw the thread I wondered if Spyderco was selling Swiss Army Knives.

I was under the impression that Blade-tech had bought their own equipment and had set up shop.

I'd made the Schrade connection from this, but perhaps I misinterpreted it.

FYI Forumites

We are awaiting boxes and Laser etching. Knives should be ready to ship in approx two weeks. I have been working with Imperial Schrade to get the chosen name officialized. I am now happy to say it is now officially the "Wegner Professional Hunter".

One last thing that may be of interest. Alaska Fish and Game contacted me at the Shot Show and will resume purchases of logoed
knives for their field agents, especially those working in the "Alaska Hunter Information and Training Program".

Thats all for now!

Ok before the rumor mill really gets out of hand here are the FACTS!
The original Spyderco C48 and C49 are my designs. The rights to the C48 & C49 were originally assigned to Spyderco. They discontinued both models. Now I have licensed the design patent back from Spyderco. The one exception is that the C49 (or Jr size) was not included in the agreement since it is about the same size as the Trakk'R which is still in Spydie limbo. If Spyderco decides not to make it, I hope to negotiate the mid size design back as well.

As far as the Mouse and Mouse 2. Both are my exclusive designs.
I contracted Spyderco to make the Original Mouse exclusively for me!

Now both the Mouse 2 and the Wegner Professional Hunter's knife
are made here at Blade-Tech in the USA.

Shrade was only mentioned as they had the rights to "Pro-Hunter"
which was what I orginally wanted to call the Knife.
I consulted with Schrade on the name to keep things above board and they agreed that by spelling out " Wegner Professional Hunter" it would not cause problems.

Hope this sets everyone straight!

Tim
