I just finished heat treating and tempering at 400 for 1 hour my first three O-1 blades.
All of them survived dropping on the concrete floor nose down with no visible damage.

What kind of other non destructive tests I can do?
BTW I haven't put final finish or sharped these blades yet.

Thanks,
Alex

I shot this S7 blade with a 41 magnum at 10 yds. :D S7 is a high impact resistant steel. Seriously, there are lots of extreme tests you can do but you may ruin the blade if you push it as far as it will go. I've chopped steel banding, cut nails in half, hard point stabs in treated lumber prying with the point, flexing in a vise and so on. Use your imagination and have fun.

wow i cant believe the mag. didnt peneterate, did it crack? nice work scott  I gotta post a pic of what a 7.62x39 and a .223 does to 3/8 mild steel plate.

Scott, did you put the blade in a vice or did it go flying? If you had the knife in a vice that's pretty amazing, I might start using s7 :D :p

that would intrest me too
I took a 357 mag once and shot a small sign of alumium nailed to a post of wood like 1/2" x 1" by like 3' long .. when I shot the sign the post broke off but the sign just dented.. if the sign was backed up with a solid back drop of , say, a tree the sign would have a hole in it now ..:)

I had the blade stuck in a tree. It went flying but the bullet squarely impacted the blade. The first shot caught the spine as you can see in the pic below. It was 3/16" stock with a convex grind. Just dented the blade. No cracks or fractures. Who knows what would have happened if it was locked down, but it's still pretty amazing that the blade withstood that amount of impact. Here's a spine pic of it.

I think if it were locked in a vise it would have bent the blade/handle at the point where it was held in the vise but who knows, might have to try it.:D
