working on my 1st knife using ats34 steel. i believe i have my blade to thin for heat treatment what is to thin and what is peoper size?

I've been told you can take stainless to a .010 edge before HT. I've been at .012 to .015 with no problems.

Are we talking about the thickness of the blade, or the thickness of the very edge before sharpening and heat treating?

Completing your profile could be quite helpful. VA is a big state, and there is no other info.

When posting a question, one should always give all the basic data - steel type and original thickness, blade type, method of construction ( kit, forge, or ground), and any other info that is important to the answer you request ( edge thickness,HT temps, etc.).
