I have modded a few knife blades to cap lifters, unfortunately I have not taken any photos.
I have one more knife that I will be doing in the next few weeks, so photos will be posted of that.

Usually I will just use a dremel on a low setting and a carbide cutting bit (not the disc but the cylindrical one) to rough the cap lifter out and then switch to diamond files for the shaping and then to a small wooden dowel and sand paper to remove the grind/file marks.

Normally I will use the ricasso as the "hook" for the cap lifter since the blade stock is too thin and wouldn't likely survive too long.
Due to this, the ricasso has to be a bit on the larger side, so it will not work for all knives,

Does anyone have a particular way that they have done this mod?
Does your way differ greatly than mine?

Having trouble understanding what your doing. Are you trying to describe that you are making a bottle 'opener' from a folder blade??? DM

Sorry for the delay.

Yes, my most recent mod was done to the spey blade of a schrade walden stockman.

The line that starts the ricasso forms the "hook" of the cap lifter, down by the kick. With some meat taken off of the blade to get to thicker stock, it allows you to gain some clearance for the cap without having to go too far into the ricasso.

I will see if I can borrow my recent one for a photo.

Ok, by using a Stockman you still have 2 blades left after modifying one for a bottle opener. DM

What I've used to get the shape of the hook is to drill a medium sized hole in about the middle of the blade, then use the dremel to cut diagonal lines to either sides of the hole and then smooth it and further shape with files and sandpaper. I find that this way usually leaves a nice satisfying result.
