Blade Treatment

I'm new to these forums.

I have a Gerber Silver Trident -- Double serrated spear point knife. This knifes grip, pommel (w/hammer tool) on butt, finger guard protection weight and feel I believe are unmatched.

But like I said I'm new to this. My question:

What kind a lubricant to you all use to protect the blade?
Does the lubricant need to be wiped of before
cutting up game or putting it near food?

I think the 154CM stainless steel and black oxide coating is more then enough protection. Just clean the blade and keep it dry.
