Blade treatments and corrosion

I have an Elementum with micarta scales and a black D2 blade. I'm wondering if the black coating makes the blade more resistant to rust. It's pretty uniform black so I don't think it's stonewashed black but I don't really know. And a general question, does stonewashing gray or black or bead blasting inhibit corrosion on steels that are somewhat susceptible to it?

Coatings protect the steel from corrosion. Bead blasting and stone washing will make a blade more susceptible to rust, all other things being equal.

It sounds like you are talking about using a different coating/finish before stonewashing? I guess I'd kinda agree. So a forced patina can prevent rust but if you stonewash it you are thinning the patina and makin it less resistant? I will say the 1095 esse I finished with a mustard patina and a stone wash hasn't rusted in 2 yrs. Looks Purdy too
