I need some help with general information about the types of steels or material used in making knives. If some one can help me understand the different types of steels, the hardness, ease of sharpening and what could be considered the most versatile for outdoor use. links, personal opinions, or anything would be great thanks!

long story short, there's no such thing as 'the best' or 'the most' anything

you should check out the makers sub-forum - lots of this type of info there by the folks who make them rather than here, where the folks who use them live.
