I was unable to travel down to Portland for Blade West this year, so I wasn't able to get any photos obviously. If anyone out there wants to talk about the show and/or share their photos, please feel welcome to post that stuff here

i didn't take any pics, (other than the under barrel QD mounted AR-15 chainsaw) but I did get to meet Mecha, and check out his titanium blades. man - I have seen a few of his vids, but until you hold one, you don't understand how light and flexible those things really are! Did say hi to the CAS knives guys (as I have a few of their blades). got to meet some new (to me) local makers, and placed and couple orders. Brian Tighe was there again this year and brought a nice selection of knives. Overall it was a pretty decent show. I hope this time it will make a nice run. The convention center should help, as the old location by the airport never seemed to get much attention.

There was a BIG attendance list. Lots of good folks whose work ought to be shown.

I asked to be the staff photographer. I told the organizers via email how IMPORTANT it is to have a presence online and to support the show.

You know what I do, here and elsewhere.

They wrote back "You are exactly right, however we have someone already. We are all set...."

Hmmmmm.....

I went down for Saturday and turnout seemed decent, handful of the people i know with booths said sales were so-so. few did great, most sold a couple, some sold none. The show seemed more geared for knife makers than knife buyers was impression i got. And i think a lot of regional knifemakers know this too as there were A LOT of bigger names who showed up, but opted to skip having a table this year who DID last year.

And just like last year, very little PR done for the show. A quick google news search shows not even a handful of articles talking about it in the week leading up to, and the week after the show. As a former Web marketing/advertising firm partner, that shows a lack of effort in my mind. I've gotten clients with budgets under $2,500 10x the exposure this show got on the web. They did a great job utilizing instagram to get the people already into knives to come, but essentially zero effort put into getting people maybe curious about knives, or who have never been to a show to come and check it out. Portlands a decent sized city too with a lot of young money, they could of definitely increased the attendance and sales for table holders if they'd gotten word out more.

As coop mentioned above, these shows need more photo exposure to lure new people in for the next year.

I attended this year. It was a fairly slow show. There were times you wouldn't see a single attendee walk down your aisle for 20-30 minutes depending on where you were. It was a fun show but definitely the slowest out of the 5 I have had a table at. I brought two new pieces for this show. And here was my set up.

Big ladder pattern damascus bowie with forged guard and cherry blossom carved african blackwood.
