Blade West Score

I was able to score this at Blade West. This was on my grail list. I got home with it and found out that we had some unplanned expenses crop up and thought I was going to have to let it go. Luckily I sold a Sarsquatch I was not using and work has really picked up so I can work as much overtime as I can physically handle (10 to 20 hrs a week). Thankfully I was able to withdraw this and keep it. Also I need to thank my very understanding and totally awesome wife who told me to go ahead keep it. The longer it was at home and the more I looked at it and airchopped it the harder it got to let it go.

Well enough about the winds of fortune here are the pics.

So now I need to get a sheath for it. For those of you that have one of these beasts how do you carry it? I plan on putting this to work as a trail clearing blade for SAR work so I'm looking for ideas and suggestions for carrying. I have a few ideas but I would like to see pics and hear experinces so I can get some more and/or better ideas.

I use a Buy Brown for my Ruck Kensei -

I understand Okuden makes an outstanding version, as well.

Nice AK!

Thanks for the coments and pics about sheaths. I'm a big fan of Okuden's work (all my sheaths are by him) but I'm trying to figure out how to attach it or carry it. I moved away from a pack and switched to a load bearing vest a couple of years ago as it better balanced my gear and made it more accessable during a search. I'll see if I can dig up any pictures.

Ok here is a pic of the vest. (Borrowed from the makers website)

Not sure how I'm going to mount the AK. Thoughts?

Oh, and I love Okuden too!!!

Shoulder sling maybe, with the handle down and an extra clip in front to make it accessible or "tucked" away (lengthen or shorten the sling). It's something I'm gonna be working on soon anyway....

Thanks UJ

It was a rare find and the price was right. If I remember/understood correctly this one was from Skunks' personnal stash. It was hiding on Randucci's table when I found it but I paid at the Busse table. Did you have Brian do chicago screws on the sheath as a mod or did it come that way?

Murdok,

Please post pics as I am curious to see what you come up with.

I have one of those Okuden sheath for my Ruck too... Comes with the screws. :) I like his sheaths, good stuff!!

Congrats on the AK!! :thumbup::thumbup:

James,

I am pretty sure that all of Brian's AK and Ruck sheath are held together with chicago screws. Most probably because the multi-layer kydex construction would require too long a rivet.

BTW, nice score on the AK. I have the other AK that was there at BladeWest ;)

Thanks Jaxx and Ban. That makes sense about the construction.

Hey Ban let's see some pics of your AK. I did not even know there was another one there. You must have had one heck of a nice proxy looking out for you. Good for you. Talk about you conselation prize.

Not to get off topic too much, but could you provide a little more info on that vest? Looks kind of interesting.... Why do you prefer that over a pack for SAR?

I had this picture stashed of Buy Brown sheaths for the AK.

Usually I strap it to a pack. No pics of it mounted, but another sheath pic for ya...

Great score! I'm glad you got to keep it. I've found myself having to recently let some knives go as well.
