Just back from Blade West. First time I'd been to one of these - previously they were down in California, but this one was in Portland. Not as big as I thought it would be, but the quality was very high. Greg Lightfoot was there, and Ed Caffrey, Pete Marzitelli, Joe Szilasky, Wayne Goddard, Ray Ennis. Others not as well known (at least not to me) but with great stuff too - Sam Henson, Thad Buchanan, Ray Richards among them. A very enjoyable show.

Knife shows are the real high points. We can talk about these knives and look at pictures but there is no substitute for seeing and handling them. Seeing so many great knives at once can be overwhelming. :)

Roger that!
Though I couldn't get there til today (Sun) I wasn't dissappointed except that Todd Begg had nothing on his table but his and Tanya's USN badges. Since Todd and Tanya were out strolling and the table was unattended I thought about knick'n the badges and auctioning them off!
In addition to the makers Kickaha mentioned, Michael Bell, Bruce Bump, Vincent Evans, Ed Fowler, Bob Lay, Steven Rapp (Best in Show), Red St Cyr, Ford Swauger (killer autos and a pistol knife), Alan Tiensvold, and I know I've forgotten a few made it a quality affair. There was no shortage of talent.
I ordered a bowie from Jon Cristensen who took Best Damascus (or was it Fighter? Damn memory!) that I'm really looking forward to.
I'm dog tired but happy after a long drive to/from. Saw a lot of friends and made a few more.
You meet the nicest people at a knife show.
Support your local knife show.
Don't forget the NWKC show Oct 15-16th!

An abundance of talent, I bought 2 of Mr. Lightfoot's blades. Check out Kirby Lambert if you haven't already, he is doing some extremely nice work, the grinds on his knives are dead on and he told me he's only been making knives for 3 years.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by my table at Blade West to chat, check out my knives, and to view segments of the "Master Knifemakers Video Collection" DVD volume 1.
I had a great time at the show.
Its always good to see old friends as well as make new ones.
BladeGoblin....thanks so much for the compliments and thanks for stoppin by my table. It was good chattin with you.

Hats off to everyone at Blade for putting on another great show.

Hmmmm... as I recall, there wasn't anything on the table most of Friday, too!!!! :D Okay, there was one, but it was in people's hands more than on the table! It was great to see you and Todd again and it's good that he's back on his feet and workin' again! Now... if he's got time to make another one of those "freebies"...

Hope to see you guys in Puyallup!

Joe, its been ages since we last saw you, what a nice surprise!!!! sorry we are fresh out of freebies.........and you are a turkey. :p :p

Who told y'all I went to Virginia Tech... home of the fighting turkeys?!?!?!
:D LOL!!!!

And to everybody else - Blade West in Portland was a great show! I went to BW when it was in Pasadena a couple of years ago and I have to say the overall feel of this show was way better in terms of makers attending. The show still has a very visible production presence, which I actually enjoyed this time better, but it also had a very high ratio of handmades and a lot of local makers showed up (and some not so local people, too, makers and collectors/purveyors!)

Definitely a show to make next year! Only real bummer is no nearby watering hole for post show socializin'!!
