Given two blades-one is one inch wide and one is two inches wide. All else (steel, heat treat, thickness, grind, length, etc.) being identical.Would the two inch blade have better, the same,or worse edge strengh/retention then the one inch blade?

Thanks!

Varying width or thickness of the blade itself will primarily affect how well it will survive as a chopping or prying tool.

Assuming both blades are equal thickness, equal heat treatment and equal steel, the dimensions that most affect edge strength will be the final edge included angle.

Hope this helps!

Thickness affects cutting ability a lot more than width does. I don't think width has any effect on edge strength.

More width means more metal, thus a stronger blade as a whole. More width also means more friction on the sides of the knife as you cleave through the cutting medium.
