Nice pics and thanks for not posting any of my ugly mug. I just got in from the airport and see what pics I have to add.

Haha...yours will be coming up on part 2. I do have a nice pic of you and Charlene at the Fogo dinner.

What a crew! Thanks for the pix. What was that cord-wrapped knife at the dinner table?? hmm.

These are great Ban! I never travel with my camera and it sucks badly...

It was great to finally meet you Ken! We need to hang out more next time around. Hanging out and yapping away is detrimental to scoring INFI at the trough. One must be focused ;) LOL!

The pleasure was all mine Amy

I'm kinda surprised Ban ain't been hired yet. What gives? ;)

If I was going to make a Busse Combat television show, I'd have Ban as the rebel knife grinding, go-it-alone cowboy...you know, the one who always demands immediate action and then goes and does something crazy...

An excerpt from my script:

Scene opens deep inside the HogCave...Jerry and Ban are looking at a holographic display of the Fusion SteelHeart...

Ban: I'm going to grind a SAR5 into a 1/10 scale replica of a FSH.

Jerry: No Ban! Think of the consequences if it went wrong...it could be catastrophic!

*Ban turns away*

Ban: I'm sorry Jerry....I have to risk it. The world NEEDS miniature versions of your knives. It's worth the risk.

Jerry: I sure hope you know what you're doing Ban....for all our sakes.

*Ban exits*

Disclaimer: Any character's similarity to any other character, real or fictional, is completely coincidental, and probably only exists in your own mind.

Edit:: Just to make sure there's no misunderstandings, I don't actually think that Jerry has any problems with Ban's mods or anything. I just thought of the scene the way I wrote it and got a laugh...thought I'd share. :)

You my friend have waaaay too much time on your hands to come up with scripts :D LOL!

Jerry is a class act. He pulled me aside and gave me many hints and pointers about knives and knife making. I still have a looooong way to go to get to where I want to be ;)

*shrug* I'm at home playing with my kids...leaves considerable room for thought. I gave up television almost a decade ago now, but I still spend lots of time thinking about what kind of shows I would have on MY channel if I was a network producer. I would totally show/watch my Busse action show.

Hey.....how about a Busse Combat reality show? Could be all about the various places and professions and people who use Busses. I figure between the military, police, and SAR footage, there would be enough action to satisfy those who didn't start out interested in the knives.

Or a Busse Combat game-show? Chopping competitions, carving duels, who lnows? "We've put a three person team in each of these giant wooden boxes. Each team has one Sarsquatch, one Jackhammer, and one Ruck Kensei....let's see who escapes their box first."

Jerry is an amiable fellow. He has a real gift for conveying that he is interested in you and what you have to say. When you're talking to Jerry he makes you feel like you're important to him, that he appreciates your company, your business and your time. I got him to autograph one of his ads for me back when I met him face to face. I still have the ad in my autograph book somewhere...there's Jerry and two or three of my favorite authors. :) At that meeting we talked about me spending a summer at the shop...I ended up getting distracted by a lady type, and didn't go. The lady type was LadyThud, so it worked out, and I'm pretty busy with the baby thing for the next 10 years at least...maybe I'll eventually get my summer in the shop though. :D

Also, what I wanted to post about the pics was totally knocked out of my head by the Busse Combat TV show ideas earlier...so here goes:

Great Pics Ban! This is the kind of stuff I show to LadyThud to convince her that Blade 2010 is a vacation, not just an excuse to buy more knives. Takes a little of the sting out of missing Blade for me.

Heres another pic of this knife. I think it started life out as a Sage FFBM. Sorry but its the best pic I got of it.

One of these days I'm going to get Lunde or Evolute to do a proper photo shoot on my nicer stuff.

I call that knife the Banned cutter. It started as a Sage FFBM (because they don't have a swedge), but that's not where the story starts.

I joke around a bit and Ban does too, when I would bring a knife to Ban we would discuss what I wanted done. I don't like stress risers so I would ask him to grind any sharp inside corners in to a radius if possible. Most of those corners were at the plunge cut by the choil. That's a tricky area to grind. When Ban was done and I was drooling over the excelent work, he would give back the blade, then ask if I wanted to add a recurve or flying serrations and draw out a really ugly picture of what the finished product would look like. My answer would be "no, that would be great but I don't want you to spend any more time on it".

Ban suggested all kinds of funky mods. Unfortunately for him, he didn't know that I like some of the funky variants so I took that laundry list of unusual mods and designed a knife around them.

Initially I wanted a harpoon tip that could open beer bottles then Ban suggested making it a band cutter also (it still opens bottles), since it's ~sharp it's kind of like a flying serration. The drop point, swedge and recurve are parts that I asked for and drew out for Ban. Also the tang is tapered because I didn't want it too handle heavy. Of course it's got a full convex grind with a polished edge and it's Stupid Sharp.

Once it was designed all that was left was for Ban to grind it. I'm not exactly sure how Ban did it but evidently the band cutter was a pain in the butt to grind. I also wanted the end of the swedge angled to match the band cutter which was another difficult detail. Once the blade was profiled it was decided that the choil needed to be a bit deeper.

And that's how you get a knife makerer to say "I'm never making another one of those".

Luckily I also got him to say that maybe in a few years he would consider making another. So I'm saving a Sage FFBM for that day.

I love the thing, Ban nailed the grind lines, the point lines up with the spine behind the band cutter and the recurve is noticeable but not so deep to make it look weird. It will cut plastic strapping and open bottles with the band cutter, the handle fits me well just like every other Fusion handle and it looks wicked.
