We have almost the opposite problem at the university; it's been hard to get the IT folks to even install basic protections, and the idea of "filtering" anyone's net access would cause all sorts of intellectual freedom alarms to go off...
I confine my surfing to lunch time, and have only a few BBS I look at. Just to be safe...
We are getting a mobile laptop for one of the police cars. Nice unit; a panasonic that looks a lot like the bulletproof models they sell to the military.
I have the car with the mount in it, so I'll get to play with the thing. The idea is to put REGIS on it, so that we can check license plates and do record checks out on the road. (Like we're so busy that the dispatcher can't cope....?????)
Hehe-anyway, these people have no clue. They stuck a Verizon wireless card in it, and told me to go out and check connectivity at sites around the university. First thing I did was check the security on the machine....None at all. No virus protection, no firewall.
Then I drove around and checked how many other wireless nodes I could connect to. Dozens. They are all over the university, as you'd imagine. Also, the friendly coffee shop across from our big parking lot has free wireless; sure enough all I had to do was park nearby and I could access their nice broadband connection.
I pointed this all out to my superiors, who seemed rather blank about it.
"Uh, we're going to have the same setup as the county police, I'm sure it will be allright..."
I'm waiting to see.
