ok guys, here is how this is going to work. we will have 4 catagories: blade steel, handle material, lock, and model.

your post is your vote. no voting twice. if you do, it will be considered a single vote, and you will have wasted your time.

this isnt official, though if we do this right, then Thomas may just go with it.

i would do a poll on the forums its self, but i cant. this allows everyone to participate

final tally will be up on tuesday by 4pm EST

my vote

steel: VG-10

handle material: ti

lock: frame lock

model: Taboo

hopefully you guys who say you really want this BF knife, will accept this idea, and possibly allow it to work, so that Thomas and company can get to work on it.

sorry but i dont think this way is any different than the other-
everyone will still choose the personal favorites-and we will be back at the begining, thats why i asked thomas to give us some choices, without some limitations we as a group will never work it out-

yeah and Thomas will prolly give you some options and everyone will most likely disagree because the options presented are not the ones they want.

thats why i am doing this. at least we will (hopefully) be able to see what the most popular choice is. thats why its vote! if we know what the most popular choice is, then maybe we can agree on something.

Offsetlover, your choice in blade steel, handle, material, and locking mechanism is also what i would have chosen. By the way, what's the model taboo? Also, clipping option of both tip and down!

i think vg10 is a japanese steel-so i doubt they would ship it over just for us-

the more this thing costs the less people will be in and then we wont get anything-

think smartly not a dream wish knife

look at nygiantsfan's avatar. thats the Taboo. on thing at a time. if model has tip up and down capabilities, then it does. so pick a model that does.

rosconey, im not shooting for a dream knife here. im shooting for a boutique run. im not calling for a super expensive knife. i was stating my opinons. the problem with your thread is that most ppl on there are going for their dream knife. thats why no one is agreeing. thats why i want a vote on it. i agree, not a dream knife. thing is, until someone realizes this, then we will never agree and will get nothing still.

vote people!!!!! vote so we may actually get something!

steel: S30V

handle material: ti

lock: frame lock

model: Melee........I've wanted a Melee every since I seen KO's Grim Reaper.

This is a Taboo :)

Personally, I could live witha a Taboo, a Bump, a Tyrade, a Shallot or proably a lot of other options. I would really like it to be a more exotic steel, e.g., zdp-189 or SG2, and would prefer a Ti handle.

I think the real question is how do we get enough commitment so that we aren't asking Kershaw to do something that doesn't make business sense. If we are really only going to be able to get commitments for <50 knives, then I think what we should be looking at is what knife they are currently producing (or getting ready to produce) and simply asking for a special mark of some sort. Unless we get to some minimum number (I'm guessing in the 250 range), I can't imagine Kershaw doing a special run. In that context, I think I would pick the Tyrade with a Blade Forums logo. OTOH, if we could get a distributor or reseller interested in a special knife to get the quantity up to a level that makes economic sense for Kershaw, I would go with a Taboo, Bump, Tyrade, or Shallot with a Ti handle and a ZDP-189 blade.

I think offsetlover's suggestion of a Poll is the best bet to getting somewhere with this and Jeremy has taken the first step with the poll on projected price.

When we get to the poll on the knife model though, I think it will be important to pick a model that makes economical sense for Kershaw to make for us, as rosconey2 has been trying to point out.

For instance as I tried to point out in the other thread, if we want a titanium handled knife then we should pick a model that Kershaw has already made with a Ti handle, is making currently, or already has plans to make (current or planned are probably better). The Bump, Leek, Mini-Cyclone, ZT0301 (sorry couldn't help throwing that in) and soon to be the JYD2 are the ones I know of. If anyone knows others please post 'em. I think that the Shallot in particular will be one to think about, I think it will end up being a fairly high production, very popular model. Looking as good as it does with the basic steel handle I can imagine it will get a high end treatment soon enough (lets buy lots of Shallots when they ship and make this happen sooner than later.) ;)

thank you kneedeep for actually getting the point of my post. i do agree, and i wil have "tenative" results on the said date. if someone who can, like you kneedeep or Jeremy, would make a poll for what model we want and steel and that sorta stuff, it would be great

If you read my poll thread, you'll have your answers. No date can be set, tentative or otherwise, until we agree on the knife. I intend to do the polls one at a time based on the results of the previous poll. If everyone wants a $150 knife, then we can discuss knife designs. After that, we can discuss materials, etc...

Agreed. Lets make it man law ;).......

Taboo, SG-2 steel, Titanium Handles, Stud Lock, On/Off SpeedSafe, and best of all, a $1 price tag...Ok, maybe $150.

Probably can't have all of those materials AND a $150 price tag. That's why I started the poll thread. Once we decide how much we will spend, Thomas can tell us what types of materials are possible.

With this little amount of interest though, the Forum knife is probably never gonna happen.
