Bladeforums...should we have a more visible presence at next year's Blade Show?

I just returned from this weekend's Blade Show, which was fantastic fun and well attended event. However, although many of our members were there, there were no organized activities for or by the Bladesforum. We are a major comunications hub for the dedicated knife community and we had no visibility at all.

Would there be any interests in perhaps including some kind of organized presence at next year's show? It would be fun, and an opportunity to perhaps raise some additional funds for the site, to organize some form of luncheon/meet and greet thing for our members. It would also be a good opportunity for all of us to recognize, and perhaps buy a round, for the many moderators who work quite hard to keep this site going.

Would any of you be interested?

The odds of me attending are equal to (and contingent upon) me winning the Powerball lottery, so take this for what it is worth. If I do show up, I'll be wearing a Bladeforums.com T-shirt. A meet and greet would be nice, put faces with names and all that.

Since BF is a business, whatever would b planned under that "heading" would require sanctioning and approval by the owner. That being said, I've wondered why there's no BF booth at the show.

True, but it would help if we demonstrated that we had an interest. The Forums used to have a booth at the show back when it was directly linked to the One Stop Knife Shop. But it has been over 10 years and we have become nearly invisible at the show.

Never been to a Blade show, but I know I will make it one day. That being said, I really think a presence there would be a benefit to the Forums. If not as a source of new revenue, it definitely would be a great way to increase the feel of community by doing as you said; putting names to faces and allowing us to honor those who help run this place. If my money situation were different, I'd be at Blade every year. It's been awhile, but I remember seeing pics posted of past gatherings, and I seem to remember something about Spark and a pink tu-tu. :D

Hopefully we can get some buy-in from folks. If I could be there, I'd love to help out. Someday...

I don't go to Blade, because my ad rep at Blade Magazine dragged the forums into a lawsuit for no good reason whatsoever. It cost me thousands of dollars to fight it, and get it settled, after spending tens of thousands with Blade Magazine for advertisements over the years. Never got an apology from Blade magazine, ad rep had no action taken against her, and I'm not exactly eager to support them when they own a different discussion site. Why should I give them money when they've directly screwed me over?

I didn't know about that. I just recall meeting you and Mike at Blade many years back. Perhaps there is another large scale knife event that we can target.

Not for nothing, but if it was Missy she is gone. And another company owns it now (the magazine). Also, I feel you on the other forum part, Spark. :D

Respect!

Yeah, and it would have cost them nothing to tell me "Hey, sorry about that" or something similar. For that matter, there was a pretty big conflict of interest there, and it opened them up for litigation too... but whatever. They don't need my money, or my support.

I wondered about the BFC and Blade Show thing my self, but Spark has outlined quite clearly why they don't cross over and for what it's worth I would feel the very same.

I think there would still be little harm in members sorting out their own get togethers though. This year at Blade a select few members here met up, talked a pile of shstuff and got drunk as lords, a small but worth while meeting of fellow BFCers it was.
It would still be nice to see something larger than a "sub forum knees up" as I personally have to travel half way round the world for the show so I would like to have as much to show for that as I can. This year all I got were some bruses from Moose and a few pics that I don't remember being taken..... :p:thumbup:
