Tittle says it all. Does such thing exist?
Mountain Man made by Queen in old R1306 pattern is a folder I felt in love at the moment I saw it.
It has all the features I look for in a folding knife: carbon steel, flat grind, natural material handles, a history behind and of course a sweet look. The problem is that I´ve already bought two of them - in an e-vendor who´s supposed to hand-pick the items if you ask for it- and both of them had an unacceptable ammount of bladeplay. In fact, first one even rattled noisely if you shaked it.
But I´ve read in some forums - even in this one- that some people swears that they´ve got Mountain Man folders with zero bladeplay.
I don´t want to get one with a lock like my Manix´s, but I don´t like to notice perfectly the wobble when I move the blade side to side, and up-and down.
So, the question is: Is it possible to get some 'tight' MM? In an affirmative case, of course, where with some guarantee?
Thanks in advance.

No matter who you get it from it's going to boil down to trust as what's acceptable to one person may not be to the next.

When I got mine I can't recall if I asked to have it examined but I am quite satisfied with it and it locks up tight. I'm sure I'd have been disappointed if there was more than even a hint of movement.

In any case, it's still going to come down to accepting a vendor (or individual seller's) word as to the condition.

Since we cannot conduct commerce in this forum that's about as far as we can go.

However, if you post in the "Knives: Wanted To Buy" section, (and maybe the trade forum as well) perhaps a vendor or other member of the site will contact you with good news.

I welcome other members or vendors to contact you directly with offers but it must be done outside of this forum.

I'm a big fan of this pattern and have several, yes blade play free ones do exist, but the last 3-4 I bought had it to the point that I will no longer buy them online, but only in person so I can inspect them.

If you do find one that's wiggle free, you will love it!!!

An alternative might be to consider a Great Eastern Cutlery No.23 Liner lock in bone or stag or its slightly smaller No.73 sibling.

Carbon steel, variety of scale choices, good lock and none of that dreadful blade wobble! doesn't have a lanyard hole though.

I bought a S&M MM File and Wire for my son 2 years ago. Basically the same knife but with an ATS 34 blade. If I remember correctly there was some feedback on the blade wobble even back then. I bought it off of a fellow forumite and when I asked if there was blade play he said no, and that it was a good question:D That particular knife was solid with zero blade play.

I've seen them in knife stores w/o blade play.

Others with a blade play problem have had good factory repair service. Send it back to Queen and they will take care of you. Usually within 3 weeks of receipt. However, being in Spain that might not be easy. Sometimes you can fix it yourself. Wrap it in leather and give it a light tap supporing it reverse side with something hard such as flat portion of a vise.
