Bladeplay

What is an acceptable amount of bladeplay (lateral) in a run of the mill slipjoint? Say in the $30-$75 range? The reason I ask is a friend of mine seems to accept quite alot as "perfectly normal". My opinion is; if the Swiss can make a $25 knife with zero blade play then everyone else should be able to.

If we're talking about new folders I should think that there should not be any noticeable play between the blade and liners.

I really don't think price is a factor.
