Greetings all. I finally finished perusing my latest copy of Blade magazine and was totally blown away by the article entitled "The budding bladesmiths of Brazil" This article featured little mini bios on three makers: Rodrigo Menezes Sfreddo, Ricardo Villar, and Luciano Oliveira Dorneles. The work of all three is stunning to say the least. It appears that these are the Brazilians that Mr. Fisk was visiting with last year. Hopefully, Mr. Fisk will chime in with his experiences if he reads this. (please!)
I was wondering if anyone here is lucky enough to have anything by any of these makers? If so, how was the experience of getting your blade? The work of Sfreddo is particularly appealing to me... I'm such a sucker for gorgeous stag! I would be interested if anybody can direct me to a web site for any of these fine makers. I know that Blade lists what appear to be email addresses, but if anybody can add to this, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks, Mongo

There really does not seem to be a problem getting the knives from the Brazilians.
These guys give you honest return of value with their knives. They work hard to do it right. You would be pleased. I wrote and asked about if they had a web site or not. I will let you know. Seems like they do have. They will also be at the blade show this year.

I greatly appreciate your reply. Hopefully you can find out a web site or two. Their work, especially the integrals, is amazing. I have never seen an "S" shaped choil before. Does this have any specific function, or just a unique style? Fantastic stuff.
Thanks, Mongo

Yes I have been hearing great things about these guys. I have a friend in Brazil who has been studying with them, primarily Sfreddo I think.
He hopes to build a website to sell their knives from in the future. I will be sure to let you guys know.
I myself, am looking into having Rodrigo make me a pattern-welded folder, but it will probably not be too soon.

There is a Brazilian knifemakers forum on CKD. It's

Mostly in Spanish or Portugese, but I'm sure if you posted the question in english, someone would answer.

Thanks to Ivan Campos I have had the opportunity to see the work of some of the Brazilian makers in the past. I am very fond of many of the knives that I have seen.

Blade magazine is not yet available on the news stands in Canada, but when it is I will be eager to see this article.

Kind gentlemen,

It is my pleasure to communicate that, very soon, we will have online representation of those three fine bladesmiths. They are individualy working on their private websites, but looking forward to have their stuff available to the international public we had a deal were their knives will be sold through my own website, wich is itself under construction and will be online in the next three weeks.

The site features my own work, but I am (by far I must add) not the real star. I am only a student of Rodrigo Sfreddo and Luciano Dorneles that happens to know a thing or two about webdesing and that is starting a knife dealing business. And it is totally in english.

There will be a special page of examples of the three friends, plus a page for me and for my American swordsmith budy Joseph Renner (yes I was the guy he was talking about). There will also be a page for available blades (if any are ready to ship at the moment and have not yeat found a good home).

The site is also supposed to be a kind of online magazine and from time to time we plan to feed it with articles featuring technical and other related stuff.

If you have any questions or would like to sign up my newsteller, please contact me at jeffvelasco@ig.com.br and I will be happy to give any information you need.

By the way, I am new here and it is a pleasure and a honnor to post on Bladeforuns for the first time.

Please forgive my lousy english...

Yours,

Welcome Jeff. I hope this means that we will be seeing a lot more from the makers of Brazil. You guys are very talented and getting better all the time.

Thank you for your reply to this thread. I am excited that you will be providing a website for these three fine makers, plus hopefully more like them. I plan on following your progress for this highly anticipated website.
Thank you Mr. Vilar for replying also. I greatly admire what I have seen of your work, and look forward to seeing more.
Grinning like a knife-crazy fool,
Mongo
