I got a good deal on the book at a recent gun show. Let me preface this by stating that I know that it is not Bernards book anymore, and many values have been omitted.

The book is more of a history lesson than anything else IMHO. Quick concise but very informative history lessons. I am still reading the section on traditionals (feels like half the book). I didn't realize there were so many distinct variations. Some very informative sections on handmades, Randall, exotics etc. As with any market, prices are not set in stone.

While I buy to use, not collect, and can't afford the pricier ones (some very nice Remingtons in there!), I have a whole new wishlist coming up! I am very interested in those four blade stockmans, apparently, so is the rest of the collecting community!

If it's the newest one, it's actually good, it was the Levine's 5th edition that was roundly hated! I have the Blade's one, and the expanded Buck information done by Larry Oden is worth the book price alone!

If you enjoy the history aspect of patterns (I do), try grabbing Bernard Levine's 3rd edition somewhere. It has most the content of the 4th edition and goes for a much lower price generally. It is much better than Blade's latest version in terms of the history of patterns.
Sincerely,
Jay
