Hey folks,

I have a tactical confession to make. I really like blades with reinforced tips on them. No, they're not necessary. Yes, they might interfere with some cutting tasks. And yes, it may just be a phase I'm going through. But as of this moment, they're frickin awesome to me and that's all the reason I need to like them. I don't necessarily like just any knife just because it has this feature. I look at the overall design also of course. What's your take on them? Love em? Like em? Hate em? Mildly annoyed by em? Indifferent? If you like them, post a pic of the type you have in mind. Below are a bunch of pics to show what I'm talking about. None of these are mine. They're all pulled off of Google and forums. I don't really, really like all of them, but none of them are bad at all in my book.

Right there with you buddy. I've broken too many tips not to have grown fond of the feature.

I have never had an issue with reinforced tips, if I can get them on design I like then I will usually take it. I have broken a lot of knifes at the tip.

I go through phases with my knifes, I went through a phase where I wouldnt take a knife that wasnt a combo serrated blade. Now that I am not on the water or around boats as much I prefer a straigh edge and dont seem to carry them as much. Now I am drawn more to knifes that can stab and pry fairly well.

A couple of the knifes in your post got me curious, you might have just cost me some money :)

Glad you said it! I've noticed a lot of newer knives ground with really thin tips, and I have to say that those thin tips really work great. Right up until the point they snap off.

Real world knife failure: Benchmade AFCK-which was my duty knife at the time.

Crime Scene guy and myself were tasked with removing a 9mm slug from a door frame at the scene of a shooting. It was going to require some work, but it shouldn't have been a problem for a sharp, sturdy blade. I realized immediately that my knife blade was not only going to be a little too long for the job, but it had a tip that was way too thin for the types of digging stresses it was about to encounter. We ended up using a screwdriver to dig the thing out. Wasn't pretty, but it worked.

I switched to a Benchmade 910 immediately after that, and my last duty knife in uniformed patrol was an Emerson A-100. The Emerson took everything I threw at it. Imagine that.
