I have a quesiton regarding blades on swords. I recently purchased a tanto, a very nice sword, at very good price. But my question is, that when I got it, the blade itself had a short of green-yellow sort of thing on it, almost looking like tarnish. The tanto has a wooden scabbard. I was wondering if this is something that happens, and if so, what could it be? Thank you all for any assistance you may be able to offer.

This is not typically something that is caused by a saya although it is impossible to vouch for each individual case. Was this a new tanto? If so it's possible you could have a factory applied coat of lacquer on the blade.

Hmm, it was on display where I got it, but when they sold it to me, they had the box for it, so it may have been a new tanto. As for being a coat of something, it's possible, but would such a coat be mostly invisible? Because this was green-yellow and quite easy to see, although it all wiped off easily enough. I asked someone about it who thinks it may have to do with the wood that the scabbard is made of.
