Bladesmith Chris Owen of MO--

I am have recently seen a couple pics of his knives and they look great.
I think Murray had one or two in his photo album also.

Any comments? His quality looks very nice.

Anthony, I've known Chris for about 10 years, met him at a local show. He's a good guy, makes good knives but only makes maybe 10 to 20 knives per year. Doesn't do shows or have a website but sells most of his work on eBay. He works with Corben Newcomb (spelling?) and makes damascus in Corben's shop which is shared with Ron Duncan. I'm not even sure how to contact him. He is a really nice guy and good craftsman. Not much info but I hope this helps.

Thanks! I was thinking of having him make some user grade Moran clones for my collection as he does mostly maple/silver inlay style knives.

Anthony-- you might want to check out either of these knives now on Ebay.

here are some knives by Chris

and a large Bowie with Maple handle and nice Sterling wire inlay

I always enjoy Chris' knives.

I have one of his damascus and blackwood fighters like the one Murray posted above. I got it in a trade from a fellow forumite and was pretty impressed with it - a lot of bang for the buck.

Given his limited output and low profile, his work probably won't become hugely "collectible," but his workmanship is good and his knives offer great value.

Me too. I wonder how many he made?.....
But on a side note his sheaths are phenomenal!
Also, I like the unique spin he puts on his silverwork on the handle, with the green leaves and other unique touches.

Murray, those knives look GREAT!

I am happy I stumbled across his work. I am looking for a few users and I think he fits the bill, to a "T".

As you know, I like VALUE.

Anthony, I'd take a long look at Fred Ott too. Great knives, beautiful silver inlay work, excellent value.

Agreed. His inlay work is fantastic and his prices quite reasonable.

Hate to comment about another maker, in a thread devoted to a different maker. But as noted, Fred Ott is doing some really nice work, at really reasonable prices. Quite a bit of variety in the work he is doing as well - from wire-inlay, to stacked handles, to carved handles. I picked up a small dagger with a carved ebony handle early this year and am very impressed.
