In 7th grade literature class I read a northern European story about a huge man who boasted he had made armor that could not be damaged. He challeged anyone to test this. A small framed man spent many days forging a sword (the story went into great detail about this). He tested the edge of his blade by holding it in a stream and threw a ball of yarn upstream. When the ball floated down against the blade the ball of yarn was cut in half. He than met the giant on a hilltop and made one hissing stroke. The giant said the felt cold. The smith asked to giant to shake himself and when he did, he fell in half, with his top half falling downhill. The bottom half became petrified and remains a mound of rock to this day. Anyone remember the name of this story? Are there any books that have a collection of stories/legends about bladesmiths or famous knives, swords? I am already well familiar with the Lord of the Rings.
