I am happy to say that I just got a new job managing, organizing, and teaching knifemaking, blacksmithing, and metal fabrication classes in Brooklyn!
Metal Shop Fantasy Camp (I didn't choose the name, haha) currently offers introduction to metalwork and welding classes, and I am coming on to add beginner knifemaking and blacksmithing classes. I got the position because of the success of my test-run of the "Forge your own bottle opener" classes, and am now going to be able to offer a wider range including several types of knife making classes.
Classes start in a couple weeks, I will follow up with more specific information when the schedule is solidified, but in the meanwhile I need your help with recommendations for what sort of classes would interest you or you think would be popular.
Additionally, anyone interested (or knows someone that might be) in coming to guest teach or demonstrate should let me know. Jason Knight and Tom Ward have expressed interest, so we already have a great start!
Can't wait to get the community's opinion,
Theo

In Brooklyn, really ?? So I had gotten my degree ,BS,MetE , In then the Polytechnic institute of Brooklyn. Well at that time my parents showed me their deed ,only to see that no chickens or black smithing shops were permitted !! So I had to pack up my bag and leave town , So now I live in the wilderness ,not blacksmithing but some teaching metallurgy via the internet ! I wonder if the old power hammer is still in the school .It was a great machine which was needed to forge the high tech maraging steel I had made .The good old days ! Best of luck to you Theo.

What's your bladesmithing class schedule look like?

Sundays we already have bottle opener classes at 11am and 2pm. I am aiming for a regular Saturday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon/evening all-metal (squirrel tang handle) introduction to bladesmithing class. Evenings and weekends are crucial because that's when the white collar folks from Manhattan can come out.

I would like to see classes that deal with breaking down the mysteries of metallurgy. Break it down into accessible, plain English explanations backed by demonstrations, examination and reliable methods of testing. I'd also like to see damascus classes.

Interesting... I had been thinking a hamon class would be fun, maybe it could be grown to include even more metallurgy and testing. We will have damascus classes in early 2017. Thank you for the recommendations :)
